    Buddy destroyed trailer tires

How would you bring up to a friend that they torched your trailer tires?
Backstory- family friends who’ve done business together for generations and to muddy the waters, they let us hunt some amazing and close properties without really asking for anything in return.
Lent my buddy an equipment trailer to move a little tractor across town and found out after he had problems with the trailer brakes and at some point popped the breakaway out.
I don’t care about the cost of the tires, I’m more concerned with it not happening again. I don’t mind continuing helping people out, plenty of people have been more than gracious to me. I just want to show him what happened without him feeling too bad or bringing money into it.

If he didn't point it out, I'd find it hard to call him a friend. Always return items borrowed in better or same condition as loaned.

I probably wouldn’t say anything to him until he ask to borrow your trailer again. Then I would teach him how to use the trailer brakes.

Does he know that he slid the tires ?

In fairness to him, he was pretty fired up about getting his tractor and just inexperienced with trailers and such, so I can see where he’d have no idea. I doubt he had any idea.

Don't bring it up, replace the tires and move on. Make an excuse as to why your trailer isn't available for borrowing in the future when asked.

If he's much of a friend at all it should be fairly simple, and him paying for new ones shouldn't even need to be brought up, he'll offer.

Just show him the trailer tires. If the tires were new he needs to replace them. If they were 1/2 worn have him pay 1/2 on new tires. I borrowed one of my friends trailer and blew out two tires hauling my tractor and I bought a new set of tires for him.

What kind of truck does he drive?? He literally dragged that thing with the brakes locked up for miles...

If you have doubts about it just chalk it up as y’all are even. Just consider your hunts aren’t free anymore.

                        It’s complicated…see photo
Tires were probably beyond 50% worn. I just replaced them when I saw what happened, but it’s been a few weeks since he used it and I know he’ll be asking again and I wanted to be prepared. I’m not upset, stuff happens. My dad used it to haul a car a few miles after my buddy, so I’m not 100% it was him, but I’d be floored if my dad did this.

If he was letting me hunt land for free, I'd just show him the proper way to use trailer brakes so he doesn't continue to screw up tires and brakes. I wouldn't not say anything but I also wouldn't ask him to pay
It would be a wash with the hunting.

If you think of him as a friend, you should want to show/teach him these things for the future. I'm sure he didn't have any idea from looking at the tires, but it's bothering you since you posted it here. Let him know.

For a buck like that he could set my trailer on fire

I’d just show him how to properly use the trailer brakes and not make a big deal about it.
