    Shooting after bypass surgery

Anyone here have any experience with shooting a bow or rifle after surgery. I was born with a birth defect in my heart that required me to get a double bypass.

I think that is a question for your cardiologist

I wouldn't do anything until your cardiologist / preferably the actual cardio surgeon gives you the green light...that chest cavity needs to fuse back together properly before anything of any sorts requiring physical effort is needed.

One of my best friends cracks chests & have heard all kinds of stories of folks trying to do too much too early.

Ask your cardiologist for a professional opinion.

He said a minimum of 4 months of healing I was just curious how others experiences were.

You have your answer. Listen to your adviser.

You must be fairly young. You'll know at 4 months when you pull back that first time.

I have a St Jude valve. Don't risk it. I got caught driving at 4 weeks, and was firmly informed the steering wheel or air bag(whichever hit me first in a accident) would probably kill me instantly

I had CPR performed on me in June ‘18 and pacemaker/defibrillator installed Aug ‘18. Before the surgery, one of my questions was “Can I still bow and gun hunt?” Dr said sure if I let everything heal properly. The leads can come loose from the device if you stretch too much too soon. So I followed his instructions to a T. I haven’t had any side effects from the installation. However, to this day and almost daily my sternum “pops” when I stretch. It’s a freaky feeling. Doesn’t hurt. Just sounds and feels funny. I would suspect you would have some similar feelings post surgery.

As others have said, have a conversation with your doctor then sit and be honest with yourself…. Can you abide by the doctor’s orders? I can tell you from experience, it’s worth it!

Good luck and PM if you have any other questions.

I think you should be fine as long as you don’t draw over 50lbs within the first 2 weeks of surgery. Just kidding of course. Congratulations on a successful surgery.

Another vote for asking the cardiologist and not an Internet forum.
