Teniente Nilgai Hunt Going down 2/22/2022

Going down for the gun hunt on the Teniente starting Thursday. 2/24/2022

How have people done so far? Looks like a lot of people asked questions but many did not post up after their hunt on the old forum related post this fall.

How did you do? Any suggestions?

Shout out if you are going to be there this week. Staying in town. Driving old 4 Runner.

Shout out if you will be down. I set up instant notification.

Good luck if you are there this week. Jim

I hunted Teniente in early January for a bow hunt. I had opportunities with a shot at a cow Nilgai and a nice buck. Will not get into details of that. Best advise I can give you is find an area with fresh scat and sit tight. Nilgai are extremely wary critters and after multiple seasons they are even more.

I was there earlier this month. I shot a cow and two bulls. Found the cow and one bull and never found the other bull.

I’d walk senderos and find scat and then set up my chair and shooting sticks in the super tall grass and cover myself up really good. Then I’d sit and sit and sit. Bunch of folks were just busting through the brush and were seeing them, but just seeing them haul azz away. I did that for a day and figured out I wasn’t going to get a shot at one walking up on it.

Also all the ones I shot I saw just for a second so be ready all day. I put my phone away and stayed focused and thank goodness I did because I just had a short window to shoot before these suckers went back in the brush.

Also before you pick a spot to sit really think about how far you are getting from the truck in case you actually do shoot one.

Thanks everyone for the good advice and well wishes, both are appreciated! Today was a good day of scouting. Was surprised by how thick most of the area is. Can see how sitting on a sendero could be productive and might try it. Come rain or shine (looks like rain) we'll be there to give it our best!

                    Thanks for the post

You’re not kidding when they say the most of property Has very limited visibility. We got there late and did not have very much time to look around

it’s fantastic you had such good luck Congratulations again Jim

Are the senderos usable by bike? I have a bike and cart to pull around.

Don't know how far down a sendero from where you parked.

we talking 1/2 mile...mile...2 miles? makes a difference to us old folks.

                            Jack. How did it go?

Thought that might have been you that shot around 8:03

We did not see any animals while hunting. I did see 25 deer on the stand. No bragging bucks but plenty of deer for what it was worth.

Did see three nilgai run across the lake on the north east side of the road. 450 yards and hauling.

People are asking about a bike, I walked down a couple of roads they would work on but some would be impossible but it’s wet down here and some are torn up up pretty badly hogs and weter areas

be aware of all these maps they give you And some of the maps that the hunting programs use or out of date so you’re never gonna find exactly what you’re looking at through on top of that that they mow some different roads every year too so you do not know what you have to work with till you get here.

I had run oo get something and headed back.

This morning was COLD and wet. It was 38 and drizzling when we got here. We have seen pigs and deer but no Nilgai yet. Have done quite a bit of walking again today and see lots of sign, just don't think they're moving very much with the cold.
Jim, we heard that shot too. Then heard another around 11:00 that was very close to where we were at the time but never saw another hunter.
