I haven’t posted in a long time, but this I have to post!! Jase my 7yr old son shot his first animal Saturday eve. Two weeks ago we went to the lease and didn’t see much then he got real sick with a stomach bug Saturday night. So fast forward to Friday morning we left early enough to make the 5 hours drive to get in the stand by 3. We saw tons of deer and got out at dark 30. As soon as we got down out of the stand the pigs came in and we could hear them feeding. So we crawled back in the stand and I got him set up. I hit the spotlight and he got on one bam swing and a miss. It was a tough shot and even though he missed you could hardly tell it. He was excited and ready to tell his story all around camp. Saturday morning was uneventful and we were ready for the afternoon hunt. We set up in a different blind with two feeders. About 5:15 a good size group of pigs came in and he got all set up, I held him off the shot because they wouldn’t commit to coming into the feeder. They moved off and about 10 minutes later I noticed a big pig coming into the other feeder. I got him spun around and set I called him off the shot a couple times as I wanted it to a broadside shot. His teeth were chattering and he was shaking like a leaf. I reminded him of his breathing and he finally said “dad I got this” I said kill him when you can. Boom flattened him with one shot. To say I was proud is an understatement. We got down and checked him out. He was so excited, on the way back to the blind I said Jase I’m so proud of you he said dad “ I’m so proud of myself”. What a day it was.
