    Ski resort help

Looking to plan a family vacation and skiing is on the want list. I’ve never been and have no idea where to start or even when the best time to go is. Any of y’all have some advice for a family friendly place? Kid is 8 if that makes any difference.

    Thanks!

If y’all have never been I would recommend a small resort and book a half day lesson. Grandby which is near Winter Park is a good one to learn at. Relatively cheap compared to the big resorts.

There is also a good innertubing hill near by and snowmobiling.

A lot of good places. We are trying Purgatory this year for first time first week of January. Honestly it’s the earliest we have ever been skiing but wanted to give it a try. Monarch and stay in Salida you have to drive up but great place even for beginners. Ski Sante Fe is great but from my experience it’s kinda ruff on newer skiers. Angel Fire is hit or miss with snow, but great for close trip and beginners friendly. It’s kinda like asking someone what’s your favorite fishing spot, they all have goods and bads. Ya just gotta go give it a try, good luck and have fun.

No help here, I am in the same boat as you. Wife wants to ski this year and my daughter is 16. If you find a good deal pass it along if you would please.

We went for the first time 2 years ago at New Years. We went to Taos and loved it. We did not take any lessons and had it picked up within a couple of hours with simple instructions from my brother in law that was with us. Were there for 4 days and went from never having a set of skis on to going down the greens and one of the blues by the end of the trip (at a more conservative pace than most folks around us)

My Wife and I own a Condo in Angelfire. We fell in love with the village years ago, and decided to buy there last year. Great for families, lots to do.

Keystone used to let kids ski for free.
Pay for lessons if it’s your first time.

If it is your first time, I'd take a look at Snowmass, CO or Crested Butte. Both easy mountains, wide open groomed trails, ski in and ski out accommodations.

IF the snow isnt good there, then I would go to Wolf Creek. Both my kids learned there, they have a magic carpet escalator thingy, and the kids just go round and round. 1 day was enough, then they skied with us the rest of the trip.

Wife is googling all the places mentioned guys. Thanks for the words of experience. Also sounds like paying for lessons may be must

Red River is your friend. Trust me. Do not go to the big crowded Colorado resorts. Angel Fire is also good for families. 30 minute drive from Red River. Ski Apache near Ruidoso will work too. Drive to New Mexico for your first trip. If it's a success fly to the big resorts next year. Or not. The crowds and lift lines suck.
