Day 1, Morning 1.
I am in New Mexico hunting Elk on a water hole
out of one of my brand new Krivoman Blinds. I
find myself thinking back to the day Dell
computer laid me off after a decade of working
for them. I remember the gut wrenching
feeling of being walked into a conference room
and seeing a stranger from HR sitting their with
my severance package in front of her. Now
mind you, I saw this coming due to the
transition Dell was making from Texas to India.
But it still felt like a kick in the teeth. But what I
did not fully understand is that God had a plan
for me and it had nothing to do with running the
Fraud department at Dell computer . About 6
months before that dreadful day in 2008 I had
decided to contact a mold company to see
about building a better hunting blind
for my own personal use. I was wasting money
on popups every year and was looking for
something better to hunt from. Something that
would be around 30 years from now that my
kids could hunt from. After working out the
details with this mold company about what I
was looking for the wheels were put in motion.
We talked back in forth for next few months on
size and cost etc. Once we nailed down what I
thought would work I told then to ship me one.
"1". I wanted to look at it in person before
ordering a bunch for my ranch. Fast forward
back to the day I was told to hand in my laptop
and badge and was walked to the door. That
35 min drive home sucked. I mean gut punch
to the sole. I turn down my driveway and
giggled a little, but just for a split second before
the memory of the morning came rushing back
to me There in my
driveway was the first Krivoman Blind I have
ever laid my eyes on . I had known they were
going to deliver the blind soon but was not told
what day. I had to get out of the truck and
move the hard shell blind so that I could get to
my house. At the time I was not thinking about
the blind or how symbolic it was, I was just
thinking that it was in my way from getting to my
house.
I look back at that moment, that split second
turn down the driveway that changed by life.
My families life. God was saying I got you. And
since I am not the brightest bulb on the tree, he
even had the delivery guy set it dead center of
my driveway so that I have to see it and
physically move it. Well fortunately for me I did
not sulk for to long. Couple weeks max. Then
one day I decided to go
outside and turn that shell dome into a hunting
blind. The rest they say is History. 12+ years
later find myself at 8000 feet, in New Mexico
sitting on a waterhole in a Krivoman Blind.
Feels pretty sweet. Of course hearing bugles
all around me is pretty sweet also.
I Probably should pay attention to the hunt and
set phone down. Got a whole week of this so
should be awesome.

Well the bulls that were close never showed. In
camp I was trying to remember everything.
Water- check, snack - check, Ozonics - check,
elk calls - ???????????? Crap they are sitting
on tailgate at camp.. I did have 3 mule deer
does come in but that is
about it for the morning. Evenings are always
better so I fully suspect this to be a great day.

Day 1, Evening
Well for the first time in 7 days of hunting this ranch I am in a new location. (6 days last year. ) It is refreshing to see some new scenery. Although I always chose to stay at the other location due to elk traffic. But we checked trail cams and my watering hole was a little slow over last week so we made the move. I always love hearing the different names ranchers/ outfitters give there spots. I am sitting in Cowboy flats. There is a big bull that has been here 2 times in last 3 days. Lets hope he shows again. Water is 32 yards to far side. But I do have range to shoot 60 yards but I am not doing it.

4:20pm. Just had a group of 14 turkeys come buy. It was fun watching them chase grasshoppers. They were cleaning them up. Did not stick around to long. 6pm is the magic hour so have a little more time to enjoy the cool breeze.
Well it was pretty slow until 6:15 when I decided to play a little sweet music on the elk call. The bull answered me right away. He was strait in the direction I needed him to be. I waited about 5 minutes and hit the call again. He answered and I amediately cow called back. He screamed again. I set call down and said he is on his own. I was of course on the water hole he was heading towards so better to just clam up and let him do his thing. Man did he ever. When he popped out in the meadow about 250 yards away. I through my binos up and saw that he was a big 5x5. I said if he makes it across and gives me the shot, I will take it. He buggled a couple more times walking across but I was just trying to keep camera still. He looked awesome coming across with the sun glowing off his horns.
I had been having some swirling winds so I shut down side windows of the Krivoman Blind (shameless plug) and pointed my ozonics out the front shooting windows. He worked in to 32 yards. He drank a ton of water facing strait at me it took forever for him to turn. Not sure what got his attention but he turned and stood broadside, then quartering away looking away from me. It was the time I had begged for. I came to full draw and settled my pin. I took an extra couple seconds to lock it in and sent it on its way. The blue lighted knock let me know everything I needed to know. OL Mitchy boy finally had him an elk. Not a megagiant, but not a scrub either. Very happy with my first elk. Hope you enjoy the pics and the video. I had to trim out about 7 minutes of the elk drinking water. Sorry the video is long, but I trimmed out as much as I could.
