    Daily Bible Portion (Tuesday)

    Daily Bible Portion – 3 of 7
    "SEND FORTH"

    (Weekly Reading>>Numbers 13:1 to 15:41, Joshua 2:1-24, Hebrews 3:1 to 4:16)

    The Cost of Grumbling…

Israel’s consequences of murmuring against the Lord’s word and the land He gave to Israel came the next day. He declared that the tribes of Israel, in their present state, were not permitted to go in to possess the Promised Land but must remain in the desert until their death. They were to suffer the equivalent of one year for every day they spied out the land for a total of forty years until that generation who had grumbled against His leading died. the Lord/Yahweh declared,

Numbers 14:29-34 “The carcasses of you who have complained against Me shall fall in this wilderness, all of you who were numbered, according to your entire number, from twenty years old and above. Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no means enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in. But your little ones, whom you said would be victims, I will bring in, and they shall know the land which you have despised. But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness. And your sons shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years, and bear the brunt of your infidelity, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness. According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, for each day you shall bear your guilt one year, namely forty years, and you shall know My rejection.”

As for the leaders who explored the land, who were responsible for spreading the evil report, they were struck down before Yahweh and died of a plague.

This wall of division brought a devastation that prevented the first generation, the decedents twenty years of age and up, from entering the land. They were the survivors of the Egyptian captivity and by their own grumbling and complaining their slanderous words threw the gift of life away and brought death upon themselves.

    Anarchy

Sadly, the dissention did not stop there. The next morning, after hearing the news of their being barred from the land forty-years, the people went into anarchy. After being warned these Israelites still defiantly chose to proceed in an attempt to conquer the Land on their own. Their presumption in assuming they could take the land without the Lord caused their enemies the Amalekites and Canaanites to defeat them and drive them back to Hormah south of Hebron.

We are told the enemy will be at our doorstep if we rebel in any way against Yahweh’s word, thus plans for our lives. Lies take the hinges off the door and lays a red carpet for the Satan to enter in. Truth puts the door back on and bolts the lock. Genesis 4:6-7 clearly describes what will happen to us if we allow anger and bitterness to overcome us.

The Lord/Yahweh says if we do not choose what is right sin is crouching at our door desiring to have us, but it is our job to master over it.

Genesis 4:6-7 “So Yahweh said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.’”

The Grain Offering - with the Oil and Wine Offering

After the blatant display of rebellion and with the smell of death still lingering in the camp Yahweh in His mercy continued to share His protocol for the Israelites once they come into the land.

Numbers 15:2-5 “Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘When you have come into the land where you are going to live, which I am giving to you, and want to make an offering by fire to ADONAI- a burnt offering or sacrifice to fulfill a special vow, or to be a voluntary offering, or at your designated times, to make a fragrant aroma for ADONAI- then, whether it is comes from the herd or from the flock, the person bringing the offering is to present ADONAI with a grain offering consisting of two quarts of fine flour mixed with one quart of olive oil, and one quart of wine for the drink offering.” (CJB)

The elevation offering is always to be accompanied with the grain/meal offering, the oil and the wine offering. Keeping these elements together is an eternal protocol for all generations – ours included. They represent the attributes of the Messiah and are designed to give the Children of Israel hope.

Ezekiel 45:17 “Then it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the feasts, the New Moons, the Sabbaths, and at all the appointed seasons of the house of Israel. He shall prepare the sin offering, the grain offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings to make atonement for the house of Israel.”

Jesus/Yeshua is the Living Bread, the meal/mincha offering, the Torah/Word made flesh (John 1:1,14). The grain speaks of our continued fellowship with Him and His atoning sacrifice that restores fellowship between man and God. The oil represents the outpouring of the Holy Spirit/Ruach. When we walk out a heavenly decree on the earth an anointing occurs. This is the witness of the Spirit of the Holy One. The wine offering is symbolic of Christ’s atoning sacrifice that not only covered the people’s sinful nature but provides atonement for the sin and an opportunity to be cleansed from a guilty conscience.

John 6:51 “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread [truth], he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

The animal sacrifices in Torah were established by Yahweh to atone for the believer’s ignorant disobedience. Sin causes our separation from Him and our ultimate death. Only blood can atone and restore the blood covenant relationship we have with Him. The sacrifices represent offering for bad morals, attitudes, behaviors and characteristics – the animalistic/pagan natures - so they can be surrendered on the altar. The grain, oil and wine offerings represent Christ’s redemption, which makes available an option for believers to choose a holy sanctified lifestyle with Him or not.

Romans 11:15-18 “For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root [Yeshua] supports you.”

Hebrews 10:22 “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

It is interesting to note that the bread offering (also called grain or meal offering and in Hebrew, mincha offering) was made with fine flour, oil and incense. Neither yeast nor honey is to be used (Leviticus 2). This could be made in several ways but when it is pierced and cooked in an oven the unleavened flat bread is called hallah or challah. Hallah (Strong’s #2471/TWOT 660b) comes from the root word halal (Strong’s #2490/TWOT 660) meaning to wound (fatally), bore through or pierce. Before it was baked a ten percent portion called the memorial offering was removed and, along with incense was burned on the altar. The memorial portion represents the Messiah who willingly offered Himself up for us as our memorial offering. The remaining challah (90%) belonged to the priests. It is when believers in Jesus act respectfully to the directives of His Kingdom they are called the firstborn, a royal priesthood and a holy nation - partakers with the Messiah. The priestly portion (Jesus) was holy therefore the whole of the challah (His talmudim/disciples) was also holy (Leviticus 2:10; 1 Peter 2:9).
