The originals are very narrow. I know a guy who bought one of the mexican made pangas and had it upgraded with nonskid decks. The decks were terrible. They were thin and warped and cracked badly. I don't know which company that was from but the decks were a factory option, not put in later. The hull was solid but the decks were the worst I have ever seen in any boat. So be careful and don't buy sight unseen.
Imemsa is the one you see most often.
Some of the Americanized pangas are pretty nice like the Andros Tarpon.

I'd go out and fish in one before you buy one. The 26' is a very capable boat, but the pangas are narrow and rock side to side a lot. If you're planning on bottom fishing in the gulf you might want a different option. its also not going to be a family frendly fishing boat, but if you're looking for a cheaper offshore boat with little creature comforts pangas can fit the bill.
The us made pangas are great boats, but they aren't the pangas the are used in 90% of third world countries. They are over built (good for durability) and heavy but require bigger motors, and burn more fuel.
A 26' foreign panga can run all day with a 90-150 tiller steer, but the US panga needs a 200+ or twins and is still really rocky.
