    Water Clarity at the coast

Just got back from Port Aransas this evening and was pretty bummed about the water conditions. Straight up brown the entire time we were down Thur-today. I had thought that wind conditions played a big part, but today there was barely a breeze and the water was still the same. Is there really any way to determine if the water will be clear or not? Watched a video from about two weeks ago where a guy was catching jacks while wade fishing by the Jetties and the water looked clear as can be. Also talked with some locals and they told me that Wednesday the water was beautiful, so what causes the change?

Could be water flow from flooding rivers making it's way out the jetties.

Cold water updwellings can cause this. If wind turns it up, usually takes a couple calm days to clear up.

Wind direction plays a big role as well. If its anything other than from the SE, the water will be dirty.

We had S/SE winds the whole time and today was no wind. I had wondered if it could be from all the flood water entering the gulf with recent rains. Have not heard of the cold water updwellings before but that's interesting.

The few times it cleared up the last couple of years the wind was south west.. North wind makes the beach calm and allows some cleaner water come in.

Pretty clear up around G-Town today.
My buddy pulled his first Tarpon ever out of the surf.

Went out of Surfside today and the water near shore was almost a orange brown Brazos river brown. I have never seen the water so dirty. Also a ton of debris floating around

Saw some pictures from Surfside and it looked like the shoreline was trashed with debris! We at least had a clean shoreline in Port A.

The Brazos is running at like 48,000cfm right now. Was higher over the last week. That’s a lot of brown water dumped into the gulf. Most major rivers were flowing over the last two weeks.

The water is always murky there, unless the blue water is in, that only happens maybe two or three times a year. When the blue water does come all the way up inside the jetties, the fishing gets crazy, they start catching all types of stuff, that you normally don't see caught off of the jetties or inside the jetties. Normally you have to go 30 plus miles out to get into the blue water. If you have ever taken a boat out in the gulf and seen the line, where the murky water stops and the blue water starts, it is a very sharp line. One side the water is green, or brown and murky, the other side of the line, it's clear bright blue water.

Went to Port A last Thursday for the first time in years and it was terrible. The surf was rough and looked like chocolate. Couldn't even catch a hard head.

Was there a lot of jellyfish? My son is going down with my parents and he will be heartbroken if he can’t swim.

I didnt see a single jellyfish in the surf! Maybe one or two dead ones on the beach but that was it.
