    Sawmill Cedar?

I'm needing to replace a rotten pergola. Would like to use cedar so I'm not doing it again in 10 years. I have plenty of good sized eastern red cedars. With the price of lumber the idea popped in my head to have some of them cut.

Decent idea? Does it have to be kiln dried? I can cut and load myself. What's a reasonable cost to have it milled? If I need 6×6 beams, how big does the log need to be? Any small sawmills around B/CS or east side of Austin?

In for answers as well. I have some big cedars, and had the idea to make a coffee table or bedside table out of one.

I have a sawmill and also plan on doing this.

I don't plan to Kiln dry the stuff outside but I will leave them stickered to air dry for a while.

Most likely you will get some cracks in the 6 x 6.

$75-150/hr for milling. Kiln drying is by the board feet. Most have a minimum for both. Plus damages for blades if they hit metal.

You will want to kiln dry anything that is going inside. Air drying in Houston will get you down to about 15% at a rate of 1in per year. I like wood to be 6-8% for interior projects.
