    Maine in July ??

Planning on a Maine trip mid July for about 4 days. No real plans yet. Is there enough to do there and see to justify the trip. Either fly into Boston and drive up or fly into Portland. Any suggestions or ideas. Anyone have any experience up there ??
    Thanks ryan

We flew into Boston because we had business there first! We traveled the coast and drove every peninsula in Maine , found every lighthouse, Fort, ate plenty of Labstuh-warning, humans can only eat so much labstuh because it is very rich (don’t ask me how I know)! Do not travel without mapping out the peninsula’s and setting distance goals first ( you don’t just wing a hotel). We stayed in Bah Hahbuh ( Bar Harbor) one night and returned through the white mountains! You can ride the ski lifts during the summer! If you have a choice of a Baked Potato pass on it- they really mess a baked potato up Bad! Some of those peninsula’s jet out 45 miles! When you get to the end of a peninsula and see a big beach that goes way out to rock hills... remember, the tide rises 15’ very quickly so check the tide chart before making that haul ;-). We did this in 3 days! 1 more thing, when you see all of those kids playing in the Atlantic think twice before entering ( those kids are green Yankee’s and are used to 55 degree water during mid summer), that water is COLD! I know I’m all over the place but I just remembered the drive through Kinnebunk and seeing President Bush’s place, they have their own cove and you drive up high and look down on it, it’s a beautiful place and setting.

        Acadia National Park.
Go to the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain. Get there early & take a jacket.

We flew into Boston and went up the Coast of Maine to Bar Harbor. Stopped along the way and ate lobster till we couldn’t. Beautiful area to visit.

Humper spent some time up there recently. Maybe he will chime in.

Must stop, REDS in Wiscasset. We fly to Banger and go south as far as we want to go and then north to Bar Harbor.

4 days isn't enough....add a few. Bar Harbor and Acadia as suggested. I'd fly into Portland. 2-3 days in Portland and 2-3 days in Bar Harbor/Acadia

Ohhh...and bring lots of $$$. Nothing cheap. Especially if you like Lobster rolls.

Agreed about the length of stay. We were there 10 days and wished we had more time. Lots of great places to eat.
We ate a British Pub in Portland and it was cheap with great food.
The other end of the food was Lobster Rolls at a small place by one of the many light houses. Over $60 for three of us.

July and August are their busy times so get your reservations well in advance.

I don’t think I could listen to the locals talk more than about 3 seconds

I liked their faces when I spoke to them. They'd have the "wth is that" look.
