Does your recreational property produce an income for you?

And if so....I'm interested in how it produces an income for you. We are throwing ideas around while looking for land about ways to make a little something here and there off of the land.

Or is the land you own strictly recreational and personal/family use for hunting?

I know this is somewhat vague but I'm just curious after the conversations with my girl since we've been actively looking. I talk about having a property large enough to run a few hunts on and things like that.

I'm needing this pipe dream to become a reality soon because the price of land in Texas is only going one way.

    Thank you TBH.

I own a hunting property and sell a few hunts. I do not make a profit off of it. The hunts cover feed and upkeep some years.

Except for personal satisfaction and the Grandkids hunting it is a money pit. Run enough cattle to pay the taxes but not the upkeep.

It’s like feeding an alligator: but it’s your alligator!

Ours is recreational only now. We are Ag/timber exempt moving it to wildlife. However, my grandfather used to make $ with it in the olden days based on the following:
                      1. Raised cattle
                      2. Leased for hunting to cover taxes
                      3. Lease for hay bailing for the pasture part
                      4. Raised cream peas & watermelons (lots of work as I was involved)
                      5. Trapped fur bearing animals. Coons used to bring $12-$25/pelt & bobcats upwards of $175. This was early 80s (PETA killed this money industry)

                            Here’s a few:
Lease hunting rights, mineral rights, possibility lease some land for a cell tower site, grow crops and start a farmers market, lease land for hay, cattle, goats, sheep, get an ag exemption, wildlife exemption, dig a pond and charge to let folks fish it, sell fish fillets, raise chickens and sell eggs, grow a pine plantation, build an RV Park.

Nope. But never thought it would.

Just for fun and another investment platform. Maybe I’ll sell out someday and make a profit or maybe not.
