Ammo - How much is enough?

So seeing all of the comments about long lines, shortages, cost, hoarding, etc on this forum and many others...it got me thinking (I know, that is dangerous).

How much ammo is "enough?" Not trying to be a smart @$$, just curious how much The Green Screen experts suggest?

Let's say I have 2500 rounds of a particular caliber; is that enough? Should I continue to buy more when I can? At what point do y'all feel like you have enough on hand?

Just curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this...

    Thanks!

This is a loaded question (no pun intended). 2500 rounds isn’t even a good start for me, but it may be enough for you.

In my opinion, you couldn’t have picked a worse time to try to build up an ammo inventory.

2500 rounds for anything besides shotgun shells, would be a lifetime supply for me. I just don’t shoot much, some guys like to go to the range and shoot and shoot some more. It just depends on your situation.

Depends on the caliber and gun. For me my hunting rifles that are sighted in 50-100 rds is plenty. Now when it comes to AR 223, 300 blkt 2500 rds really isn’t all that much when you start plinking and having some fun. Same with 22LR. If I take my kids out to shoot we can go through 300-500 rds easily in a day. I think I have 5-6k rds of 22LR and I still can’t pass up boxes at retail when I come across them.

It depends, will they outlaw guns and or ammo in the future? Are you asking what a lifetime supply would be? Or just enough to last for 4 more LONG years?

True. But in that scenario even a case is plenty. If going out and shooting would land someone a felony are they going to be going to the range very often?

I just need enough to last me for 4 years. 5,000 rounds should do it. I don't shoot anything that's not breathing.

ask yourself these questions, how much, and how often do you shoot ?

If you primarily hunt and shoot < 50 rds. annually, you'll be fine.
If you shoot every weekend like John Rambo, then you're in trouble.

I have no doubt ammo will continue to be manufactured. The problem will be when the next administration taxes ammunition (and guns) through the roof so we can no longer afford to purchase them. Money created by taxes will be used to support government social welfare programs, and pad the pockets of politicians and lobbyists. Don't be surprised when you have to pay $20.00 in taxes on a $20.00 box of ammo... it's eventually coming.

The question is pretty scenario based. Are you planning on an apocalyptic event or a war? If you're just worried about not being able to go shoot targets then I'd say save money on not buying ammo until things go back to normal. It's not any different this time than it was when Obama won.

People said the same thing about him. What did he do?......Not a hell of a lot at all actually.

Our government doesn't care about us,what we have or what we do. They pretend they do but at the end of the day they care about what 99.9 percent of the world cares about.....money.

Enough is however much makes you think you have enough. I don't have a problem with "hoarders" because it's none of my business how much of anything someone spends their money on. I'd rather it go to someone who might use it someday than to someone who is just trying to make a quick buck today.

When I range shoot, I shoo less than 100 rounds at a time. I just do enough to keep me in practice and have fun. So for me I'd like to have 1000 rounds or so of my 22, 9, and 223. Any other caliber I have about 100-500 rounds just in case it becomes even harder than it is now to get.

Though once/if ammo returns to what it was before. I might consider have a bit more on hand. Hindsight is 2020 amiright.

I have no problem with hoarders, though I do have a bit of a problem with price gouging on it, even though somebody will pay for it. We definitely don't need the government to come in an regulate how much someone can buy/sell.

I appreciate all of the responses.

I know what I need to feel "stocked," question was intended to be more of a when do you feel you have enough and can quit looking at ridiculous prices and wait times on line? I know it is different for everyone depending on situation.

                          Just curious was all....

I have enough to make it until things go back to normal. Unless I just want something then I'll buy it. Probably gonna shoot cheap 20 gauge dove loads for a while for pest instead of using a rifle like normal but I've done that before so that won't be a problem.

2500 that would last me the rest of my life for my Deer rifle but I am 63 yrs young also.
