    Cow Elk Ammo Selection

I’ll be headed to New Mexico next week to hunt cow elk. I’m bringing my APR 280 AI. I have 3 different types of factory ammo, and assuming all 3 shoot well out of this rifle, which would y’all recommend?

    • 140 Grain Nosler Accubond
    • 155 Federal Terminal Ascent
    • 168 Berger Hybrid

I only have experience with the Accubond on live game (South Texas Whitetail) so I was wondering if anybody has shot/killed elk with the other 2.

    Thanks in advance for advice/opinions

The accubond would work great. Sure any of them would. My next choice would be the federal ta.

Accubond. I hunt elk every year here in colorado and that has become my go to. Accurate, tough, good expansion.

Any of those will work assuming they shoot equally well in your rifle.

I like everything I hear about the terminal assent but have no experience killing with it. It does have a long pedigree dating back to the trophy bonded bullets, pre plastic tip.

If your rifle is already sighted using the accubond that’s what I would use. The bullet is plenty stout enough, much more so than the Berger.

The 160 gn Nosler Partition is always a good choice. I loaded some of these using my dads old recipe in a 7mm Rem Mag for a friend of my wife to use on cow elk in AZ.

She connected on one at 250 yards and reported back that it dropped in its tracks.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’ve pretty much made up my mind to stick with the Accubonds.

I don’t know what federal puts in its federal classic, but that’s what has killed 90% of the animals I have shot from hogs to bull elk and bear, caribou nilgai

shoot whatever is accurate and you feel comfortable with, as long as you make a good shot, any will work. No need to over think it

Accubond for sure, they are an outstanding bullet. My 280 AI loves them too.

Thanks again for the responses guys. The main reason I asked is I wasn't sure if the 140 grain Accubonds would be heavy enough, but y'all seem pretty confident in them. I really appreciate the feedback!
