    Lake Charles fishing

We are down here working and they are making us take off next Sunday. All the guides are booked. Does anyone know of any good public fishing spots. We are staying in sulphur but will go anywhere around.

I love Lake Calcasieu. You will need a guide or boat though.

Shoot me a PM and I don’t mind helping you out. I’ve got some friends who guide and I grew up there. Best case; a buddy is available. Worst case; I’ll give you some good leads based on past success. I haven’t been on Big Lake since Laura and I would advise y’all to be extremely careful.

Edit: You will need a boat.

So I believe next weekend is opening of duck season, probably got most guides booked, call them and ask for a afternoon fishing trip, I bet you can find someone, try Hackberry they might do an afternoon trip.

Ellender Bridge(Hiway 27S) has a nice public area on the Intercoastal, its really good at night. You can keep going S on 27 S of Hackberry and there are several places set up for public fishing and crabbing.

Thank you all. We might have a charter trip with high tide. Waiting to hear back from them.

If you want to fish from the bank. Head South on 27(that's the Hwy in Sulphur) about 25-30 miles to Hog Island Gully(there's a sign). The water pours out of the marsh, you will catch Redfish if you have live shrimp. There are a few public areas before you get to Holly Beach. Now, I'm not sure if they are open since the hurricane.

Oh, here is another spot. At Holly Beach, head East to Cameron. Once the road turns North find a spot to fish the ship channel for flounder. The month of October is usually the time to go. Just look for other fishermen and blend in, the crowd is usually nice. Use a beetle spin...I would change the beetle body with a gulp grub.

What was said above. My 2 cents would be fish the ship channel edges, or fish off the rock groins off holly beach. Lots of reds and flounder right now. Use live shrimp, crabs, or mullet.

The ferry landing is usually a good spot
I think someone told me the road washed out during the hurricane? Might need to confirm you can get to this spot before heading that way.

I think the road on the east side washed out. Not west. But could be wrong
There is a sort of cove with a "shelf" not long after your turn north towards the ferry from holly beach and before you get to the ferry that's always good. This time of year will be several people wading there and killing flounder.

Well we ended up getting on with Trout Mouth Charters. Going to do an afternoon trip with them. Hopefully the fishing will be good in afternoon. That will be our only day off in 3 weeks so we did not want to be up and at the dock before daylight.

The reds have been pretty solid the last few weeks and some birds working so u should have some action. Good luck.
