    Mature buck?

    I’ve got this buck who’s looks to me to be 4.5 minimum, he just has a pi$$ poor rack. Wanted some confirmation before green lighting him as a management buck.

                I agree with that, our deer density is pretty high I think and from what I can tell the available browse is poor. We do have a lot of acorns but it’s not a year round food source. I feed as much protein as I can afford but it’s really just an attractant as it’s not nearly enough to truly supplement the natural food sources. I know we aren’t seeing the full potential of our bucks, but at the end of the day we are blessed to have a good lease and see a lot of deer.

                          If that is the case you need to be thinning to get to a sustainable population for the range.

                          As far as the buck you posted the pics of, I see post mature and a great candidate for the sausage, jerky, chilli grind tub
