    Cedar Clearing

Just curious, how much is the going rate per acre on cedar clearing in the hill country? We got bid by someone and we think it is a bit steep. I know alot goes into it, depending on thickness, terrain. But maybe two questions, how much does it cost per acre in flat land, and some hill terrain?

That's a tough answer. Depends on it they are mulching the cedars up or using a dozer to just push and rip them up. With a dozer, terrain permitting, prob $800-$1000 a day give or take. What part of the state are you wanting the clearing down?

Where specifically in the Hill Country? Can you share pictures? I shopped around and found $1500 for a mulcher for 8 hours.

Depends on machine they are using. Bobcat or similar or one of the bigger dedicated machines. Not sure where you are doing it but try calling my friend Frank. 979-864-nine six five four. He may travel. I use to do it for $125 an hour on a bobcat machine.

I recently hired a crew for cedar clearing work. They used a large excavator w/ a grubbing bucket to uproot the root ball, then had a skid steer w/ a rock rake to push the trees into piles and smooth everything back over. It ended up being about $2000/day but we cleared about 5 acres of thick brush per day.

The state paid my landowner 25k last deer season to clear his place. So ag program I think. They rented a large track ho and got to work.

$1500 is the going rate for mulching with a skid loader and mulching head. How much we can get done has a lot of factors. Terrain, Size of Brush, how many good trees we have to go around, etc. Not easy to just say how many acres per day. Every acre is different.
