Lower Rio Grande Valley NWR - East Lake

Kiddo drew this as a youth hunt, having trouble finding anything in the search for it. Nilgai is on the list so little man might be practicing with his daddy's Elk gun leading up to it. Anybody got info or input on this hunt?

Anyone know if there's campgrounds on site or nearby? I'll call them too when I get a chance but also like to get green screen input.

Don’t think there is any camping on the nwr other than the part by arroyo city.

Should be plenty of room and board in port Isabel, los Fresnos, harlingen, San Benito, maybe even Bayview.

Nothing on site. Have to stay in Raymondville and drive back and forth from there

What are your dates? My boys drew 12/18-12/20. This is our second time to draw this hunt. Last time one of them got a nice bull.

He's got 12/4 - 12/6. That's really encouraging to hear. This will be our first time down there so it's gonna be a learning experience. I need to read the rules and see how much time we're allowed for scouting, planning to maximize that and put in some serious work for the boy on this.

My kids and I have drawn there the previous 2 years. We stayed at the La Quinta in Raymondville. Great accommodations and the owner is awesome. He would leave some continental breakfast items for us early each morning because we were up before the breakfast started. Sounds like you're already going with the campground though but figured I'd give a plug. I got plenty of info about the place if you need help. PM me your phone number and I'll call or you can call me.

Bottom line: It's a target rich environment even though we returned empty handed, mostly by choice on letting small ones walk. Both of my kids had opportunities but the shooting lanes are tight.

Not sure how I missed this post but just saw it. I'll shoot a PM now, definitely appreciate any help as we're going in blind aside from whatever early scouting they allow me.
