    Man tonight SUCKED :(

Out hunting. Trying to thin some coons out. Used to have 8 show up regular. Tonight had 4, mom and 3 little ones. Watched them in my thermal for 40 minutes. Feeder goes off second time at 9PM. It goes off. They scatter than come back. In wait 10 minutes. No other heat signatures. Line up for the shot squeeze the trigger, safety still on, and flinch so bad I thought I was having a seizure of some kind
Flicked safety off lined up and bang momma drops the little one head for the same tree as before. I'm popping rounds after them.
Put safety on and walk to feeder. I hear one squealing. Shoulder rifle see it in my scope soon over it's head (100 yd zero, its inside 10 yds) squeeze trigger. It jumps squeals louder and goes guess behind a tree. I left it. Turned made sure the first one was down. She was. Turn back, and I see second one scampering off. Squeeze the trigger and flinch bad again It's still hobbling away from me. I trot to my right to cut it off and loose it in some dense underbrush. Walk around and see it again. Put croshairs flush with top of head, squeeze the trigger. It jumps and runs off [emoji35] I decided I'm done for the night and call it.

Been thinking of using a 50 yd zero....

It's an acquired taste. My buddy did that on three pigs the other day. If you do enough run up drills you get use to the difference in the shot placement due to the scope height over the barrel.
On a .22 I usually do a 50 yard zero. Mostly because I hardly ever shoot longer at small game.

      What thermal are you using?
Flir and Pulsars can save different “profiles or guns” so you can switch between guns and not need to sight it in again or you can have it sighted in for multiple yardages

All I can do is laugh. You need a suppressor

SmTx is correct its an AR10 .308.

              In have the Pulsar RXQ30V.
LMiz it took me a second to figure it what your post meant. I never thought about using different profiles for different Zeros on same rifle. Thank You!

Why not a .17 or something. I mean ive shot littler with bigger lol... or carry a .22 pistol to run up and finish them off.

I use a 50 yard zero. It’s dead on at 200 yards. Remember mechanical offset when you’re within 15 yards and to hold a little low when the target is at 100 yards.

I had a frustrating moment in the woods a few months ago. Had my lever action .44mag and a pig stepped out. I knelt down and got my sight picture. Squeezed trigger and hammer dropped. No bang... new round in... click, no bang. Happened a few more times. Pig gets out of dodge and I realized I had the safety on. I was ******!!!

Sounds like you need some range time with that rifle...and isn't .308 a little overkill/expensive for raccoons??? I zero my AR-15 in at 50 yards.

I'm just going to throw this out there....but it's super easy to trap coons, and you don't have to be making it sound like WWII around your feeder.
