    Yellowstone Grizz drowns bull elk

We just got back from a wonderful vacation at Jackson Hole, WY, USA for my wife's 50th BD (don't tell her I mentioned her age ) We went to South Africa for my 50th but I thought this was a good trip for her. We had a wonderful time in both in the Grand Teton and Yellowstone natl parks. It just so happened that the day before we visited Yellowstone, a Grizzly bear drowned a bull elk in the river and had drug it up on shore to eat. The back story to the video is that several bulls had been fighting up the hill (in video you see a herd of elk on the hillside). Apparently the bull injured his left back leg from fighting and the grizz took full advantage !! We were able to witness the grizz burying the elk and eating on it the next day.
It's amazing that the kill was caught on video- here it is for you entertainment

We also got to see a very good Shiras bull moose tending a cow, herds of bison, pronghorns, a black bear sow and cub and several bull elk although I really thought we'd see a few more. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and the great weather compared to leaving the Texas heat and humidity !! I came home to Tropical Storm Beta sitting 60 miles SW of me

Wasnt that about 10 years ago

A few days ago I saw a picture of that bear sitting on the river bank with that elk below it, half eaten. I thought that was such a cool picture, its neat that ya'll got to see it in person. I'm assuming there was alot of professional photographers set up on the kill once the word got out.

I had a few friends up there that sent me pics of this same bear burying the elk on the river bank! Wild video and I'm surprised the elk drowned so quickly.

yes to say the least the pro photographers were in attendance Some looked like they had 4 ft lens. Although I'd say we were no more than 125 yds from the bear as it was across the Yellowstone River so everyone was able to line up on the opposite bank. I should have approx 10-15 min of video but haven't had time to review it. One guy let my wife hook her iphone up to his 50x Swar spotting scope for a coupe pics and a short video clip. Apparently the wolves showed up yesterday morning but the photos out there so far of that aren't great as it was a bit foggy. Maybe more to come today.

If you watch closely, that elk's left hind leg is completely shattered and only hanging by skin as if someone shot it off. You can see it clearly when the bear rolls the bull at the 3 minute mark.

No legal hunting within 50 miles of there (my guess) but other observers claim the elk was injured earlier in a fight with another bull. His left hindleg was broke and a gore hole behind his left front shoulder are visible in other pics after the bear pulls him out of the river. What is apparent is that the bull was hurt somehow before entering the river.
