My son just got drawn for both! Keechi is mid Nov and SNA will be late Dec. Lucky little ****..... I have ZERO knowledge of either of these places, anyone got any general info?

I've seen quite a few threads over the last few years about Keechi. Just do a search on those. Not sure about SNA.

My son got drawn for Hill Country SNA too! I think there is a decent chance to shoot an axis there.

Really? That would be awesome! The permit says antlerless/spike, so I wonder how that would work...

They can kill 4 whitetail. 1 spike and 3 antlerless or 4 antlerless. Unlimited hogs and exotics.

We will have to connect before the trip. My son is 14. How old is yours?

Yup, we got drawn for the same dates! He will be 11 on 12/1 and I've been dying to get him down to South Texas for years!

From what I'm reading, I may not take the SNA hunt and take him to Keechi creek. Would love to accept them both but I just got drawn for Boars Den too and would end up divorced if I went on all of these hunts

We went last year on the youth hunt for Keechi. My oldest son shot a doe before we even had a chance to put his tree stand!. He saw other does, but was waiting on a buck that never show up. He did shot 7 or 8 pigs in one sit. My other son shot a doe from the ground the last day of the hunt, had a chance on a nice buck but did't give us a shot. He also shot a pig.
A lot of creatures over there, specially pigs.

I had read some negative reports as well but we experienced something different last year. Drew for antlerless/spike and 3 of us shot 5 does and a small axis buck. Lots of deer died during that hunt.

Now we were the second overall hunt at Hill Country. They have I believe 4 antlerless/spike hunts and at least, 1 youth hunt. I know the success percentages dropped significantly in later hunts. They hunt the same blinds for each hunt (they said they try and rotate) but I'm sure the blinds get hunted hard in Dec and early January. If you are one of the first couple of dates, I definitely wouldn't pass this one up. Especially with a chance of exotics (2 axis and 2 sika were shot on our hunt).

They used to do "compartment" hunts but have switched to assigned blinds. There are plenty of deer there.

One note though: They do not have an area for skinning/quartering your deer. We ended up throwing a rope over a live oak limb near the headquarters and cleaned deer in our headlights. PM me if you want any specifics.

Thanks for your input sir. I know there are deer by the thousands down around Bandera, so it was kinda strange.

Good to hear. Also helps on the decision to buy a receiver hoist to clean deer or not!
                            Thank you much

I read some negative comments about that hunt too. I look at it as a weekend hunting some different country with my son. If he kills something, great. If not, we had a cool camp out in the hill country.

I'll have my gambrel and a rope for skinning.
