    Howa Alpine Mountain in .308

For those who shoot this rifle in this caliber, what have you found to be the best bullet? I’m looking for a round to take into the elk woods this fall.

Nosler Partition would be my choice, but their Accubond, E-Tip, or a Barnes would all be good picks as well.

Here’s a screenshot from a Randy Newberg video I just watched that’s right inline with your post...

He also shoots 165 grain Partitions from that same rifle. In your experience, would you choose 1 over the other?

I would suggest the 150 grain accu-bond. The E tip, Barnes TTSX, and Hornady precision hunter lines are all solid choices. It might depend on what you can find...

I like Randy’s show. He seemed to favor the 7-08 in earlier seasons.

Turns out the best mix from my components is a CCI primer and 45gr of Varget for the 165gr Nosler Partition. I had a handful of different cases, but now that I’ve got the load down I’ll load 3-5 of each case and see where that leaves me.

Even with the different pressures those different cases were sure to produce, my best three were just over an inch at 100 yards. I’m new to this game so it’s been fun learning.

              Let’s go get ‘em. 5 shots @ 100

              PPU brass (what I had)
              165gr Nosler Partition
              45gr Varget
              CCI #200 primer

I really do like it. Stepped into it from a heavy barrel 700, so it took some getting used to, but now I wouldn’t go back. Such a solid, compact little package.
