    Redeck and roof price.

We got a quote to remove 2 asphalt shingle layers including wooden shingles, deck with 7/16 osb and install 25 year shingles for little over $6 a sq. ft. Any roofers here or anyone can tell me if this is fair? Roof is a open intersecting gable design.

That depends on several factors. “Half inch” osb is 7/16“

If it has battens from the cedar, 7/16 is more than enough.

We wouldn't touch that job for 600 a square in my area, but it sounds a little high for Texas.

        What zip code? Insurance job?

I’m in Lubbock and have received 2 quotes for tear off old decking (planks) and replace with 5/8” plywood. Re-roof with class 4 shingle. Quote 1 is $600 a square and quote 2 is $625 a square. 30 squares total. Both wanted to quote 7/16” OSB but I asked for 5/8” plywood pricing as I have read it is recommended for 24” rafter spacing. In for opinions on this as well.....

Well I can tell you I’d never let anyone put 7/16” anything on my roof deck

This. You are asking for trouble with 24 inch rafter spacing.

Thanks for that replies, If they are leaving the battens I don't think 7/16 is the problem. If no battens going to ask for thicker.

Make sure the roofer cleans the roof debris out of the attic when he is done. I have inspected tons of houses where the wood roof was removed and decking was installed. Most of the time half of the old wood shingles are left on the attic insulation.

I'm not much help, but every time I see your thread title it catches my attention. I keep reading it as "Redneck and roof pricing".

Good information on the decking thickness that I will have to share with my neighbor who is about to have his entire roof replaced, rafters and all.

If I am reading this right, there are currently 3 layers of shingles. 2 layers of asphalt and a layer of wood shake? Is that correct?

If so, just quick math in my head, I would charge more than $6/ sq ft. That’s a lot of take off labor and dump fees.

.17, I’m in lubbock and would like to earn your business. I’ll shoot you a PM with my phone #, we can discuss. And I agree 7/16 is bad idea long term on 24” space.

Should be 390ish a sq. For your roof.
