    Sony DCR-VX2100

Does anybody have any experience with this camcorder? It advertises excellent low light performance and it has image stabilization...both are features I need in a camcorder.

Court, there are a few people on TBH that use them and love them, you can check out everything about them at ......this link to a great website that has all the info on every cam you can think of!!

20 Optical is better in the Cannon GL2 for about the same price. Optics in Sony are very good too. I use a Sony 12 Optical very good a camera. I'm going for an HD next.

One thing to remember Court, when you have a higher optical power it will drastcally affect you low light capabitlity.. thats why I went with the FX1

I love my VX2100. If you are in DFW area you can drop by and borrow it. Low light is simply amazing and the video quality is among the best. All of the Canon's I've used ( XL1s and GL series ) grain to an annoying level in low light situations.

            Court did you decide?

I was looking at the VX2100 as well as the FX1.

The low light on my VX2100 is awesome. I've had it for about 3-4 years now. The 12X zoom is good for most situations - it did leave a little to be desired on our Pronghorn hunt though....wide open spaces! I think Sony has basically the same camera in an HD format now that may be worth looking at.

              Good Luck.

I figured if Sika liked it it had to be good enough for me. I ordered one Monday.

This camera is very close to my PD-170. I personally would go with HD. Here is the reason. Some of the new editing software that is coming out is allowing the software to replace what you do in the camera. I put a post out about Sony Vegas. I can take a wide shot of a deer at a feeder, then shoot my bow. After I get back and dump it to the computer I can then zoom in with the software on the deer and get the shot. The problem here is that it degrades the video. If you are using HD, the video will degrade to standard video. I am using standard now and used this zoom feature and the video was distorted somewhat. If you are going to spend the money for this camera, why not pay a little extra, or in some cases the same amount for and HD with the same options.

The 20x zoom in my opinion is not a big seller as the pixels get fuzzy and unsteady, even with stabilization. The best option in my opinion is to put a 2X converter on it.
