    Who's had IBS?

So with everything that's been going on lately in my life, I've also developed some gut issues. Not sure how exactly it started, but my doctor has diagnosed it as irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. Everyone I know who's had IBS has stated it was the diarrhea kind, but I'm not having any issues with that. What's killing me through all the is the random areas of abdominal discomfort and a very tight low back, like I've done deadlifts for a week.

I've adjusted my diet and added more stretching to my exercise routine, but it doesn't really seem to help much. I am wondering who on here has had a similar situation and what has been done to alleviate the condition?

Ask about the candida diet. Get rid of the candida overgrowth you will feel much better.

Take the time to review and look it up.

    Good luck..

      Diet an probiotics.

I don’t think IBS is curable but flare ups can be more avoidable. I have ibs-d so not sure if my experience and food avoidance (dairy, dried meats, hotdogs/sausage, beans, cabbage) is relevant.

I won’t be much help for any kind of solutions because I just deal with my issues. My IBS varies between both extremes. I may go days with being stopped up and then a couple of weeks of loose as a goose. On top of that, I don’t have a gallbladder so that really compounds things.
My diet is mostly protein and lots of water and I do seem to do a little better on that than if I indulge in too many carbs.
During the constipated times I keep some herbal tea on hand that really helps. During the other extreme I keep TP on hand. Every vehicle I own has TP, including my motorcycle.
I have routines that I try to stick to in order the deal with it, such as I get up three hours early before going hunting. That gives me time to eat, let things settle, have a movement and then drive to the lease 40 minutes away. As soon as I get there I’ll have to take care of business again. Been that way for years. I’ve just learned to understand that I have to do certain daily routines to deal with this. Always be prepared.

I was on an antibiotic in late May and I started Culturelle to try to get good bacteria going again. That's right when my stomach issues started to occur, and I figured it was due to the probiotic and figured it as normal. After about a week of still having issues, I decided to stop the probiotic and things started to level off again, and assumed that was doing more harm than good. Then about a week or so ago, I started feeling the same stomach issues again, but this time it's started to cause some pelvic muscle tightness and slight low back pain. I woke up this morning to both sides of my low back feeling very tight but pain is tolerable. Its the tightness that is very uncomfortable. Other than that, I don't feel too bad, especially in my gut.

I'm sitting in the chiropractor office now to see if I have anything out of alignment that could be causing all of this.

We did have spaghetti last night, so if this is my issue then it explains why I feel this way. Basically a flare up.

Had it pretty bad, was like clockwork. Eat certain things and knew i would have Hershey squirts with in minutes, get stressed out and blow up. I was overweight and drank tons of regular coke.

Lost weight, got in shape, dealt with stressors, and #1 got rid of regular cokes. Made a huge difference.

I can now even eat some spicy foods.

Sorry for your condition, it truly suxs!

My wife has something similar but not exactly IBS. She has really had to hone in her diet and if she eats something with an ingredient in it that doesnt agree with her, she can end up bed ridden for days suffering. I cant even start to list all the stuff we look for and try to avoid. Best I can explain is that she follows an AIP type diet. She also drinks tons of water, take probiotics and exercises regular.

My whole life but it really got worse in high school. I was prescribed Zelnorm before it was taken off the market. I have the mixed type that alternates between both issues. Stress and hormonal fluctuations are the main triggers of flare ups for me. Medication and certain foods to a lesser extent. Identifying the triggers is the best step you can take toward reducing flare ups. Sticking to a routine with your sleeping, eating, and exercise helps. If I get off my routine things get all out of whack.

My doctor recommended polyethylene glycol (miralax) for constipation. It's pretty mild and not habit forming like stimulant laxatives. When I first started having symptoms, everyone told me I needed to eat more fiber, drink more water and exercise more. None of that helped. Eating extra fiber just makes my stomach more upset. What my doctor said about IBS is it's not a diet issue - it's about the communications between your brain and your bowels. Living a less stressful life and getting on consistent daily routines (sleep, meals, exercise) has helped the most.

Sorry... it is manageable but it really sucks.

This sounds about right. I've give the Miralax a try. I definitely have been under quite a lot more stress (which we all have), but I've usually been able to manage it better. I guess it's catching up to me.

Maintaining a strict paleo diet (or just cutting out grains and dairy and most processed sugars) made a dramatic difference for me.

I have had stomach issues but not officially diagnosed by my doctor, he just suspects it. I have been taking l-glutamine for a while and it has helped tremendously. I’m about to try a different brand of supplements for gut health, will let you know how it goes. Food doesn’t seem to be a big issue for me except for broccoli and lettuce. I’ll let you know how the new supplements work out.

Dropping 20-25lbs would do me wonders but with my gym permanently closing and the kiddos always around, don’t have much time to work out.
