    Red River NM

Does anyone here have any expierence with moving to Red River?

I would like to be able to move there in 2 years.

Looking for cooler temps., I can't stand these dog days of summer anymore, I hate it.

Just got back two days ago. Been going there for 28yrs, but no experience with being a permanent resident. It's different living there than vacationing there, but go for it. Life's too short!

It's definitely a different lifestyle there I'm sure. Are you planning on working/ starting a business or living the retired life? I'm sure there are opportunities there for some one becoming a resident.

How do you feel about cold and snow ? For most moving to the mountains means learning to deal with winter conditions.
1st year in Laramie we had a 3 ft snow, most folks just shoveled out and went on about their business.

I have several retired friends who live half of the year in Texas (October-March), and the other half in New Mexico (April-September) and really enjoy getting away from the dog days of Texas heat. Don't know what your situation is but it worth looking into it. Good luck.

As a way of saying it, I am going there to live life, but I will still need some income.

Not to worried about income, I can find different types of work. I will have to get used to the snow.

I've been there snow skiing. Love the area. I too am like you and am sick of the heat and humidity the older I get. Good luck and make the move before life passes you by.

We have place in Angel Fire. From what I have gathered through the years of talking to locals, you really need to have several skills. Basically you will need to have a couple jobs based on the seasons. Summer, Winter, and Mud seasons.

My grand parents lived there during the summer and Cedar Park in the winter. They was retired and had a RV so I doubt that's what your looking for.

Just curious as to what kind of skills? Handy man type stuff?

My sister lived up there for 25 years. Really loved it, but lived hand to mouth. Cost of living is outrageous. Most of the guys did handyman/trade type work when they could get it. I'd suggest going and spending a couple of weeks getting a feel for the place. It might be different now.

We’ve done our summer family vacations there for the last decade and I’ve hunted deer and elk in units 49 and 53 several times. Red River is a wonderful place. Weather, scenery, fishing are fantastic in the summer. It’s very popular now and crowds continues to grow every year. But even as a little tourist trap- it has a down home feeling. One 4th of July, when my kids much younger, we won father son and mother daughter three legged race at the community center. My wife and I dream about spending our summers there in retirement- but the real estate is expensive. My former boss retired on the other side of mountain between the Taos ski valley and town. They enjoy living in the region and especially live the seasons. Jobs are hard to come by, have a plan.
