What is up with New York's Numbers?

65,564 tests yesterday and 584 positive cases. Something isn't right with that.
Are they using different testing methods? I understand they took a really big hit early on. But if social distancing works, how would the disease have spread to a huge percentage of the population when they were shut down? So much so that hardly anyone is catching it now....even though they are somewhat reopening? Only southern and red states are still having a problem? I smell a big pile of BS.

I'm just throwing this out there but the cootie is doing what the cootie does...what is happening now in tx is what should have happened back in May. Shut down prolongs herd immunity & nobody can really outrun the bug forever.

It's really bad here in the valley & hospitals are at max, but it is what it is...I wouldn't be surprised to see NY & the like get a 2nd big go round.

Do you think it’s possible that maybe mask wearing is actually effective in controlling the virus and New Yorkers actually took those recommendations seriously since their outbreak was so bad? And then, and I’m really going out on a limb here, by everyone taking the the recommended precautions to prevent spread of the virus, it actually did mostly prevent the spread of the virus.

Or possibly this is all a deep state plan to lead to the downfall of the United States (and Western Europe since their virus numbers have gone just like New York’s).

And, again I’m out on a limb, but maybe virus number in red states are going up because they are taking their lead from President Trump who refuses to be seen wearing a mask, or otherwise take the virus seriously so in turn the citizens aren’t taking the recommended measures to curb the spread of the virus, hence the increase in cases in red states.

Or possibly deep state, who really knows.

So we can open all business back up and stop letting criminals out of jail - because a mask stops the spread of the virus?

Pretty sure businesses in Texas are already open if they choose to be. If you would like to have a debate about prison reform I’m all ears but I don’t think that has anything to do with increasing COVID cases in red states and decreasing cases in New York.

You seem to live in the dream world that masks stop the spread of the virus. Does the virus just disappear over time or is mask wearing going to be mandatory forever? Do Californians not wear masks? Do they not take it seriously? Does rioting and riding stacked in subways not spread the virus?

Personally I think it has more to do with testing and reporting practices. But we may never know.

So now that we know that a symptomatic people don’t spread the virus what are the masks actually for? Deductive reasoning says only people that are sick and by sick I mean symptomatic and therefore contagious (fever/coughing etc) would be spreading the virus so once again we are back to the original idea that a mask should be worn by someone who is sick to protect the healthy. If you are sick and symptomatic then you stay home and quarantine just like the flu.
Would this be an accurate assumption?

It’s been proven that Asymptotic people don’t spread the virus? That’s amazing news. Would you mind providing your source for that info, everything I’ve read says asymptomatic carriers are a major source of spread. I know the WHO made a statement to that effect back in June but they have since walked that back.

I would agree that folks who are sick should stay home and quarantine however the current US system makes that hard for a lot of people. Most people don’t get sick days and have no/limited paid time off so they’re more likely to try and hide their symptoms so they can continue to get paid.

Transmission can also occur from people who are infected and remain asymptomatic, but the extent to which this occurs is not fully understood and requires further research as an urgent priority.“

Here you go. Long article but good info. Regarding asymptomatic transmission it looks like the virus is less likely to be transmitted by an asymptomatic person, however not impossible, and there is a big difference between asymptomatic and presymptomatic. It has been shown that the virus can be spread before the symptoms start, so it’s impossible for anyone to know if they are presymptomatic (highly contagious) or asymptomatic (potentiality not contagious). Hence all people should wear masks when near others when possible.

All people who feel the need should wear a mask. Everyone else should have the freedom to live life. If you don't get up in somebody's face, it would be impossible for their fluid droplets to get through your mask. I don't understand why my freedom ends where others' unfounded fear begins.

Why does everyone conveniently keep leaving California out of the discussion? Their rates are increasing as much if not more than the others. California just had 12,000 new cases. Texas less than 10K. California deaths almost 7K. Texas, 3K. Both States had similar policies as far as handling decision making. Both left it to local officials.

I'm sorry, but you can take your Red State/Blue State nonsense somewhere else. I for one am sick and tired of the constant attempt to divide at every single opportunity. How is that even the least bit helpful?
