what's a good hunt to put my grandson in for. Looking for shot opportunities. Not at goats.

We went on a bunch of youth hunts with my boys. Best time and shot chances, hands down South Llano River SP

Also check out tyhp.org, really cannot say enough good things about this organization or their hunts. Although I am not a volunteer my wife tells me I should carry tyhp cards with me because I tell so many people about it.

Pick one that's convenient for you or that has good camping if you want that. It doesn't cost for youth hunts so pick as many as look interesting. I never had a bad youth hunt with my kids. And even better, like said above, check out TYHP. These are awesome and first class hunts. I really missed them when my kids all aged out. Don't give up if you don't get drawn. Call some places about standby opportunities. Most places do all they can to get the kids hunting.

I have hosted 4 of these in as many years. I have 4 kids at a time. Every kiddo has had multiple opportunities to shoot deer, hogs & varmints. You will get access to some of the best managed ranches in the state. It is the best thing going that I know of for a very small fee.

We will be hosting 2 of the Texas Youth Hunts on our ranch this year. As bonus, weather permitting, they will also get the opportunity to fish Ribbit Lake and possibly catch a bass of a lifetime.

I wonder if there is away to request certain hunters?

Under the old TYHP I believe you had some input. If TPW is running it as a true draw then probably not. Doesn't hurt to contact TYHP if they are running it and ask.

My oldest son has been on several, and I agree with this. South Llano River is definitely the best he has been on. Tons of animals and a good chance at Axis.

If you are the landowner you can request who you want to hunt just invite them & reduce the amount of applicants you want to hunt. I have done this but your guest/hunter will still have to pay the fee & sign up w TYHP.

I might just do a TBH youth hunt without get State involved.
