Winchester 1894 Facts

So my father was a Winchester Collector for years. He passed away a year ago. In cleaning out his stuff I found a copy of a book that list out all the variations for 1894's Wood types, caliber, options etc.

One is the lowest serial number produced with a given feature...

That would be 38/55 serial #8 and it was in the warehouse on 11/11/1895

or serial 114927 that shipped out with Cherry wood the only one ever made...

Cool. I inherited my grandfathers 1894 in 32-30. I think it was mid 20s. The stock was replaced but the forestock was original and has his thumb print worn into it. I like shooting it but I don't hunt with it. Too big for rabbits and too small for deer. Maybe coyotes.. A nice, light and fast lever action.

That serial #8 rifle was sold by rock island wasn't it?

I thought it was a TX state law that every hunter must own a Winchester 94 sometime in their life. OK, maybe not, but there is just something about that lever action model 94 that says “let’s go get a deer”. Glad you found your dad’s collector book powderburner, I’m sure it is full of cool model 94 info.

That would be a interesting book to see. A neighbor of ours years ago, was a big Winchester collector, he had a very nice collection. He had some very rare guns, at least one with some very interesting history, who it's original owner was.

I never knew they kept that good of data on the guns they built back then. What's the name of the book and when was it produced?

One of the other cool things is you could get a factory install silencer for any gun any caliber.
There was 1 1894 shipped out with a factory installed silencer

What year was that 411 you have published?? Unfortunately Winchester lost all it's pre-64 archives in a fire but you could special order a gun with any & every feature available to them...just like Kimber of Oregon, you can never say never if someone says it isn't original from the factory.

Book is 1995 addition and was published by the Cody Museum

Here is the link from the Cody Firearms record page that shows you the dates and serial numbers that they have records for. You are correct about the fire but the fire did not destroy all.

I have some that you can not prove they did not come like that too.

If you get The Winchester Book, I was very fortunate to have been friends w/ a man by the name of Phil Bleakney who had several guns documented & who's expertise on the subject was shared...he had his entire collection displayed in the living room & was like being a kid at the candy store.

Also collected rare colt SAA / 1911 / Luger / Bowie knives & all other sorts of neat collectables, but his main love was early Winchester levers & original Henrys.

I have that book. Nothing we have is in there but a couple that could have been.


Pops was a 92 guy. Then a Winchester Air Gun guy. Then a winchester 22 guy. Last round was H&R and Iver Johnson Pistols. There were a few books written on the subject and we have several pistols that were in the books.

Pops has one of every Winchester Air Rifle and Pistol plus all the sales data, pellets, targets, boxes etc.
