    Baby hawk

We had a hawk make a nest a Hundred yards from the house. I check on it every couple days and Monday when I walked up this little fella jumped out. He controlled his fall and actually flew about 50 yards. He hit a cedar and was hanging upside down. Thought he might have hung a foot in a branch. He was fine so I moved him back to the base of his tree. His talons really are like eagle claw hooks. I left plenty of blood on his feet. Today there are two in the nest so I think he learned to fly well enough to get back up there.

Details on nest? I love me a hawk. Have a red hawk at the office that sits on the power line hunting mice in the hay field across the way. Have affectionally named him Hank

Only details on the nest are it’s about 30 foot off the ground in an Elm tree. We noticed about 4 months ago a hawk was constantly in a tree above our pond. About a month ago my son ( 12 ) “ oh dad that hawk has a nest right over there”
Pretty sure mom took one of my chickens but I’m ok with that if I get to watch that nest

That's cool. Some years ago, I came home and found a young great horned owl on the ground near the driveway. Since it was near a power line pole, I was afraid it had gotten electrocuted, or possibly just burnt. It was limping around on the ground. I thought I was going to catch the thing and take it to a bird rehab place, up at the lake. Well, I got close to it, the bird was not at all happy with that idea. Then I saw the talons on that bird and decided, I would leave it alone, till I got my welding gloves and something to put the bird in. By the time I got gloves and a cage to put the bird in, and went back, it was gone, thank god. That thing had some huge talons. I am sure dealing with those talons and beak at the same time, could be all types of fun.

Those things are sharp. He had his mouth open the whole time but never tried to bite.....thank goodness.

I rescued a mature red tailed hawk from being stuck in the “mud” years ago. It was actually a sludge drying bed at a sewage treatment plant. I took him home and rehabbed him in a 10x10 dog kennel with a roof. I fed him everyday and made him healthy again.....and everyday that SOB acted like he wanted to peck my eyes out. [emoji35] I’d come to feed him and he’d fly at the door and hit the chain link like he was after my face. When I finally released him, I flung the door open and ran like hell. He hung around the place for quite a while. He was either hunting or waiting on me to turn my back. I hope he eventually flew into a power line.

Awesome, love some raptors, I have a couple Harris Hawks that torment the squirrels trying to get a drink in the coy pond in the back yard, fun to watch them maneuver through the oak trees at 80 MPH.
