700, very hard to beat, minor tweaking to the stock gun and good hand loads, if you pick the right combo, it will pretty amazing things. I won some matches with basically box stock 700s, shooting against guys who all had custom built guns. I have had 3 700s that would shoot some amazing groups.
Tikkas are great rifles, I have only shot one, I never really tried to see what it would do, basically only shot factory ammo out of it. The Tikka we had years ago, was a very bland rifle, pretty sure it had a beach wood stock. Beach wood is a bit heavy, very bland wood, that is usually stained with a dark stain to make it look better, it's light colored wood like pine, but much stronger. I have seen the newer Tikkas they are a lot nicer looking, probably have very good accuracy, but I could not say, never spent any time working with one.
I know from experience, the right 700, as far as good caliber, barrel, stock, then some good hand loads. Then a little work on the trigger, then bed the gun. You can have a rifle that will be very hard to beat accuracy wise, by any other out of the box gun. It's likely possible, but it would take a very good shot to determine that some other brand is better. I was able to get three different 700s to shoot groups a shade over .100" ctc at 100 yards. I was getting .104" .110" out of all three guns. They may have been capable of slightly better groups, but I am pretty sure that was the best I was ever going to do, unless I had a scope with quite a bit higher magnification. All three of those guns, were 100% stock components, at least at first. After we had some problems with the trigger on the 308, it got swapped out with a Timney. We never changed the triggers on the other two, those we never had problems with the trigger. I am pretty sure someone did some work on the trigger that was in the 308. That gun had been used as a bench rest gun, by the previous owner. It did have one modification to it, the ejector had been removed.
Unlike a Remington, a Tikka already comes with an excellent factory trigger.
Depends on what you deem excellent. I don’t own any rifles with a factory trigger except a couple of Savage rim fires. and that’s only because I haven’t found a good replacement for the Accutrigger.
I haven’t felt compelled to replace the triggers on any of the Tikkas I have owned - T3 and T3X lites, varmint, and CTR models. Conversely, I have not been satisfied with any Remington factory trigger on any model 700 I’ve owned or handled. Admittedly, I use them mostly for hunting rather than as a bench rest or extreme long range target rifle.
