    Bergara Accuracy Issues

    Hey guys,

I bought a B-14 Ridge SP .308 18" Bergara a couple months back. I've been less than impressed with the accuracy.

I've shot over a dozen different loads through it with only a couple being barley sub MOA. I've read that some guys suggest taking the receiver out and sanding the bottom of it to remove any overspray from the coating or burs that might be obstructing the bedding on the stock. Have any of yall tried this?

    Thanks

I can’t imagine buying an expensive rifle and having to further gunsmith it to achieve accuracy that less valued guns produce out of the box.

        It’s not an expensive gun.

I just purchased the same exact rifle and am getting 1/2 MOA with factory ammo. I am shooting suppressed as well, so that tends to help accuracy some.

It seems you are trying to get better than MOA (as you noted it is sub MOA). You may need to go thru an accurizing process at this point.

One thing I have noted on the one I have is the trigger seems to be sticky, but I am sure with a little work, this could be remedied.

Plastic stocks also are not always going to be 100%, so you might looks at that as well.

I am happy with the performance I am getting, but I don’t expect better without any work for the price I paid.

            Let me clarify.

More than half of the loads I used the gun wouldn't shoot less than 3" groups with it. I have 300 dollar Savage rifles that will out shoot this gun.

The only ammo I found to shoot 1" is Hornady Black A-Max and and the Federal TLR 178 grain. I've had multiple people shoot the gun and get the same results. The accuracy is not good.

I’m not doubting your ability to mount a scope but when I have issues it’s usually me and not the gun. They have great customer service and may can help

That was the first thing I checked. There's another member on here with the same gun that has had the exact same issues.

                    This......something doesn’t sound right.

I am shooting cheap Core Lokts, 150gr. I have gotten near the same results with Hornady American Whitetail 150gr.

I haven’t worked with that particular rifle but I would start on it just like any other by checking for barrel contact and bedding the action.

This is especially true if it’s a plastic stock as mentioned above because the plastic is normally not rigid at all so any pressure applied to the forearm is passed to the barrel.

What did Bergara say when you talked to them about it?

The floating of the barrel on the rifle I have is so pronounced, I knowingly will not wrap my hand around the barrel when shooting it for the fear of affecting accuracy.

Another thing, the rifle came with very specific torque ratings for the screws that mount the action to the stock. You might check this if you have removed the stock to clean.

I have not removed it, but I will look at their specs and double check.

Also, I doubt it affects accuracy issues to the extent you are experiencing, but did you follow their break in procedures?
