    Minerals

I’m hunting in South East Oklahoma this year. What is everyone putting out for there deer? I’ve never created a mineral site at our deer leases so this is new to me.

Try some Different mineral types and see what they eat the best. The most nutritious tag is worthless if the deer won’t eat it.

If you’re talking about bagged minerals to mix in dirt, I’ve used several kinds and the ones that the deer absolutely loved were the 30-06 minerals from Whitetail Institute. You can get them at Cabelas usually. I’ve had some being used a year or more after I stopped putting the mineral out.

Agree with above the 30-06 is hands down the best. Most other minerals are almost nothing but salt and the deer get nothing from it. 30-06 has some salt but it also has calcium and phosphorus which are needed for horn development. We feed it out of a creep feeder and have had great results but they do recommend mixing it in the dirt. You can order it online from Whitetail Institute.

Thank you, I’ve seen some videos of them putting corn on top.

30-06 has 3 different kinds of mineral. Which one do you all use?

I don’t know about that. There are several different ones made by purina, ADM, lissey eckle and others that have varying amounts of calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A, selenium, magnesium and potassium.

There’s a difference between all the BS attractants that academy sells and actual mineral you get from feed companies.

Does ADM, L&E and Purina sell on line or any retail stores. Like me I live in the Ft. Worth area and don’t have time to drive to south TX to pick up feed when I can go to Whitetail Institute’s site and have it delivered to my door and it’s just as good if not better.

I agree with the above. You have to try several to find what your deer respond to. We've tried Whitetail institute, ani-logic, big n j and some others not so well known. Including some from feed stores. Big n j won hands down in our area. Other areas deer respond better to 1 of the other 2. Or something else. Get a few and experiment.
