What's with all the trucks I see with what looks like rubber strips hanging from underneath dragging the ground? For grounding? Wouldnt the tires do that? Maybe it goes along with the two mirrors folded out

I see all of the pipeline hands with those on their trucks. I assume it is a requirement for grounding in that line of work.

Rubber doesn't conduct electricity

The static straps have copper wire cores, they’re probably old cut up welding leads.

Big question

I see welding rigs with those all the time and some X-ray trucks

My question is I have been driving up and down, across pipelines
My entire life, never had a grounding strip
Am I messing with some thing dangerous

It’s to dissipate static electricity created by machines such as welding machines, and X-ray machines while they are running. More than anything it protects the operator when the touch the truck, I would think.
