This all came together quickly but in November of this year it looks like I will be headed back to the New Mexico ranch I have hunted 3 previous times! We will be rifle hunting for big Mule Deer in Rio Arriba County, NM!
This will be my third rifle MD hunt on this property. The first year I was able to take a 180" MD! That same year our group took another 180" and a 190" We are hoping for a repeat of that hunt. Our group went out two years ago and only a couple smaller bucks were killed but the conditions were not ideal. This year is the state set the gun season the latest it's ever been since we have been doing this hunt. We are hoping there is cold weather and the big boys are starting to think about the rut instead of laying under a tree all day.
It is also looking good that it will be combo hunt for Bull Elk as well. The rancher is waiting to see how many tags the state allows him. On my first trip to this ranch I took a 6x5 bull. Last trip I saw a really nice 6x6 but had no tag.
This is a private ranch but the hunt is DIY. This will be our third trip to the ranch so we think we know how to hunt them pretty well...
Anyway, our group is pumped and we have already started to prepare even though its 10 months out!
