    Trailer Tire

I've got a 12' single axle ranch king trailer and it is time to replace the tires. I believe they are 205x75x15. I don't mind spending coin for good tires (piece of mind and all). What brand does TBH recommend?

For whats its worth, I was told the other day from a trailer guy that you can run whatever on a single axle trailer, trailer or small truck tires. However, a dual axle trailer needs actual trailer tires because the way they are designed to run together and turn. He wasn't a salesman by any means but I thought it was an interesting thing.

I can't wrap my head around his explanation. What difference would a single axle or tandem axle make on the way tires roll?

I’m a fan of hankook trailer tires. I think it gets you the best bang for your buck.

It could be the stress of push and pull placed on the sidewalls of tires on a tandem trailer during a turn. Specifically a tight turn where the two tires placed close to each other are fighting each other during the turn. A trailer tire sidewall is designed for these stresses where a regular tire is not. That being said we have run many sets of tires which were taken off of new trucks (replaced with mud grips) on lighter tandem trailers with no issues. I would imagine it is a bigger issue with extra heavy loads.

Head on down to Discount Tire. They will fix you up and mount your tire so they will all roll together............LOL

i have had good luck with samson and a few others. I usually get the thickest ply tire i can find on our big trailers. Same for cattle trailers.

On yours it wont matter much.

Hankook are good tires. Most peoples trailer tires dry rot before they wear them out.

I hate Carlisle almost as much as I hate a thief. I prefer the Maxxis M8008 on my smaller trailers. Good heavy tire and haven't had any issues with them and they have been on for a few years now.

Yes, it was based off how the sidewalls are made for turning. And I agree, the larger the trailer and heavier the load, I think it would be a bigger issue.

Check out Interco's tires blem list the trailer tires are at the bottom of the list. I picked some up last year no problems what so ever.

You can run any tire you want on a trailer, single or double axle as long as you take the tires/rims in. If you take the trailer in, it will get trailer tires, no question. I had that told to me at Wally World and Discount and IF the rims are over a certain age, get ready to buy rims also. More than one tire store told me that, not just soley Discount. The deal with whatever tire on a single axle and trailer tires on a dual axle has me buffaloed also. True on the sidewalls getting put to the test with a heavy load and a tight turn on a dual axle trailer.

We use Hi Run 8ply on our trailers and recommend to our customers. We have had very good luck with them

Nothing but premature blowouts with Carlisle

Match tire for weight of trailer loaded down.
