22” 6.5 PRC 130 grain pills— Realistic velocity????

I’m looking to build a rifle to replace my 270 win, and I’m coming up with a 6.5 PRC. I’m shooting 130 grain bullets @ 3150 fps in my 270 with a 22” barrel with H4831sc and would like to duplicate that.

So my question is....... What is a real world achievable muzzle velocity for a 22” 6.5 PRC shooting 130 grain bullets with either H4831sc, H100, or Retumbo. I definitely want to stick with the Hodgdon extreme powders for temp stability. Is 3150 - 3200 fps without extreme pressure a unrealistic dream?

6.5x284 and the PRC have almost the same capacity. Never shot 130’s. I would look at slinging 140’s just over 3k with it.

I’m looking for the flattest possible trajectory out to 500 - 600 yards on deer sized game.

I won’t say you’ll do it for sure but it’s possible

FYI you can shoot the 6.5 around 100fps slower than the 270 and be flatter at 600 due to BC difference

I’ve got a 6.5 saum. Little bigger boiler room. Would have no problem hitting 3150 with 130 in 22” barrel and H1000.

Seems like a very bot load to get there. You may want to step up in capacity just a bit. The only thing I believe would be a little step up without going to the extreme would be a 65 SAUM.

As noted above, capacity and performance of the prc is close to the 65x284.

FWIW- I HOPE you can because I'm running a 24 inch prc and plan to load the 130 Tipped game kings in mine for the same reason you stated.

You’ll be pretty dang close. However like bphillips said even at a little less velocity you will shoot flatter further because of the higher be of the 6.5 bullets.

Where do you get your brass? I see ADG makes it but is out. I wonder if they will be making it again. That’s my biggest concern with the wildcat rounds is lack of components down the road.

ADG. Its tough as nails and consistent. Best 300 win mag and RUM brass you can get. Call them up and see when they will be making it again. I think it’s soon. They have distributors just none with good websites. I used to try to only build if lapua made brass for it. Now lapua and ADG. Where in Texas are you located?

Best thing to do is sign up for when it becomes available and act quick!

26 Nosler, 6.5-300wby, good old .264WM? If that's your disease, there are plenty of medicines available.

The 270 win has approx 5 grains additional case capacity over the PRC.....

I'm loading the 130 Accubond in my CA Mesa and getting 3100 with a 24" barrel. 58.5 grains of H1000 and a Rem 9-1/2 primer is my recipe. I'm almost at published max load, but I don't see any signs of pressure as of yet. I haven't pushed the envelope for more velocity because I'm getting .5 MOA and better, but I don't see the point.
