    Iowa 2020

Looking for recommendations for what zone to go too, we have a group of 8 guys that have been putting in for the last 4 years for preference points. We were looking at public but aren't opposed to going with a recommended guide. Anybody out there that can help me out in Iowa for that opportunity at a true Trophy Deer?

    Thanks...

Sounds like you have had 4 years to research it. What made you decide on Iowa to start with?

Yes. I can help on both. I would concentrate on Zone 5 or Zone 6.

Zone 5 will most likely take 4 preference points. Zone 6 will take 3 or 4.

I know some outstanding public ground in both zones. The public up here does not get much pressure.......especially during archery and especially during the week.

Make dang sure you are here on November 7, 8, and 9th. If I only had 3 days to hunt all season I would be in a tree on the 7th, 8th and 9th of November.

If you want to go with a good outfitter look at Whiskey Ridge Hunts in Zone 6. The outfitter is a good guy, he has some great ground, and his prices are great.

Not to discourage, but giving you honest information...... The hunting can be tough. There is not a big buck behind every tree as depicted on the hunting shows. If you are not too picky you will kill a buck. If the stars align and you have some luck you might kill a slammer (which in Iowa terminology is a huge buck). There are a lot of my friends up here that live with these deer on their farms that eat tag soup because they are waiting for that certain "big one".

Get with Cole Winther of Southwest Iowa Outfitters. I shot a 185 2/8ths with him in 2017. PM me if you want his contact info.
