Knoxville, TN.. anyone ever been?

I've only passed through there on the way to Maryville. No help, but here's a bump for ya.

The problem with Knoxville is 1) Tennessee sucks! (KY boy) 2) Knoxville isn't really a happening place. It's a college town that sits on two fairly significant highways (I-40 and I-75), so there are lots of bars and restaurants.

There are several breweries in town that aren't bad (Hi Wire).

Tennessee is whiskey country, so you could find a distillery to tour (Old Tennessee Distilling Co. - East of town on I-40).

There was a World's Fair there back in the 80's. They still have a park in the area. They also have a Market Square (downtown shops) that is OK if you just want to walk around and see downtown.

What kind of free time do you have?

Asheville, NC is about 2 hours east. The drive on I-40 through the Smokey Mountains is worth the trip, even if you get to Asheville and immediately turn around and go back.

There is also a tourist area about an hour southeast called Pigeon Forge/Gatlinberg. It's considered the gateway to the Great Smokey Mountains. There are lots of shops and restaurants and other touristy places. It kind of has one of those old mining town atmospheres, or at least it used to. There are a lot of Cherokee related items in the area and places to see black bears, etc. Hiking and other trail activities are pretty popular also.

Also - don’t try to get through Knoxville on 40 or 75 within 3 hours of a home game.

Not a lot, I'm only there for a day, but get in at noon and my test/interview isn't until 630. I'm going to go into Knoxville and get lunch then eventually head down to Farragut where the test location is.

I did six weeks back in @1992, NCO academy, never left the base. Seems allright from what little I saw.
