    An American Classic Combo

We all love a good custom rifle in a new hot rod or wildcat chambering but sometimes it makes us overlook some of these old combos and looks at them as obsolete. Really it’s hard to beat an old model 70 and some core lokt ammo.

Truth is this combo here will shoot lights out and kill just about anything most of us will hunt and do it farther than we will shoot. Got any other .270 lovers here?

I’ve never owned a .270 Win in my life. Not because of anything other than it just never called my name. I’m a .280 Rem fan, but I know except for the heavier bullets the .270 will do anything the .280 will. Jack O’Conner killed everything in North America with it (almost), but then his wife did that with a 7mm Mauser also. I have to say though, the old tried and true .243, 25-06, .270, .280, and 30-06 is all anyone would ever need on this continent to take on any animal.

And the great thing is you can walk in any place that sells ammo and bet on most of those being on the shelf

I grew up with this exact setup, in an old Remmy 700. I don't understand why so many people hate on core-lokt ammo. It's quite reliable.

Can’t hardly beat a mod 70 for a Texas hunting rifle but last rifle I tried to shoot corelokts out of really didnt seem to like them but they do kill everything just as dead as the high dollar stuff.

And I absolutely love the .270 win. One of my favorite rifle calibers. Will get me a super grade mod 70 in .270 with a leupold on it one of these days.

If I had to choose one caliber for a "do it all", it'd be the .270 Win.

I've got a old wood stocked Savage 110 in 270, topped with a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40. I call it the "Texas below poverty line blue collar gun." It shoots lights out and I would trust it to perform on any hunted, near or far.

My favorite gun in a .270 I was handed down from my Great Uncle. The stock is custom milled from from a mesquite tree that he cut down on his ranch. Couldn't even put a value on the gun. The fact that it will shoot a cloverleaf at 100 yards with factory ammo just makes it all the sweeter.

Love my Model 70 Supergrade. Shoots scirocco's lights out. Also have one in a featherweight that shoots just as good.

My go to & favorite caliber is my .270!!!

I have a safe full of rifles & was just discussing how I could sell/eliminate most of them.

How ironic you asked this question

The 270 in my safe as more kills than any other rifle.

There is a fella in east Texas I met several years ago on a bear hunt who had killed nearly all the North American big game animals with the same Ruger 77 in 270 (been over twenty years ago but if memory serves me he was only missing two and it wasn’t the big bears) I wish I would have kept up with him

Nothing wrong with a 270. One of the classics, but proven calibers. It will surely be around for a long time still.
