    Rem 700 300WM Ammo

Remington 700 300 win mag Magpul edition
Shooting Winchester Power Max Bonded 180 grain

Brand new gun and cannot get it to group. Shoot two good and the 3rd is far right.
I’m using a lead sled so I know it’s not my poor shooting. I’m assuming it’s the Ammo

So what Ammo would you recommend for an elk hunt?

No experience with the Remington in 7 Mag but my father and youngest brother both run Federal Premium through their A Bolt II Medallions and they’re tack drivers.

They generally keep two types around, one is Nosler Partition for when they believe hogs are a better chance of showing and I think the other is some sort of Vital Shock but not sure on that.

Edit- Sorry, hit Post Reply too early.

My younger brother has the same rifle you have and also runs Federal. He sighted in with the Non Typical rounds and then checked it with the Premium Noslers. Both worked well in 180 grain.

If it shoots that first one where you want it that’s the important one. Are you letting the barrel cool between shots?

Barnes TTSX in either 165 or 180 grain.

Lots of powder and big bullet builds up a lot of barrel heat quickly. As mentioned before if the first shot is where it needs to be then you’re good. Fire the first shot, wait several minutes and fire another. That bullet is probably more than fine as it’s their bonded bullet.

Also check the bedding of the action in the stock. As the metal warms up from firing, it can contact the stock and move the point of impact.

What’s the barrel weighT? If it’s sport barrel it could be overheating

Like what was mentioned earlier. Try Federal and Hornady ammo. I never could get winchester or Remington ammo to shoot well in my browning 300.

As said above the led sled could be compounding the problem not making it better. It can also damage your rifle due to the amount of recoil.

Try the Hornady precision hunter ammo with the 200 eld-x. It shot sub MOA out of 300wm I had.

On a side note, the comments about “if your first one hits where you are aiming, then you’re good” are ridiculous. For deer that should be the case but it isn’t always and sometimes follow up shots are needed. If your rifle can’t hold a group of three for your accuracy requirements then you need to find a different ammo.

                        Sierracharlie out…

Hornady Superformance 180gr SST. My Rem 700 .300WM shoots sub MOA all day with them

Had the same issue for years out of my Remington 700 300 win mag until I switched to Nosler Trophy Grade Ammunition in 180 grain Accubonds. Problem solved and never looking back.

Berger Match Grade 215 Gr. Hybrid.

Was shooting the Nosler Accubond 180 and it shot well, just couldn't find the ammo when I needed more. I tried the Federal Match King BTHP but it would not group like I wanted. Switched to the 215 Bergers and they will flat out group.
