For those that have a full sized savage axis with the new stock, can you remove the spacer looking insert in between the stock and recoil pad to shorten the stock?

Goal is to buy a cheap 223 for my kid to shoot. I can find a savage axis for cheaper in a full sized stock. If I can remove the insert then it may fit the kid better without having to spend extra on a compact model.Comment

You can also use a sawzall and cut the stock to whatever length. Epoxy in a wood block and screw a recoil pad on. Works with all stocksComment
