    Optimum gpp?

I know some people like heavy slow arrows, and some people like light fast arrows, and some people like mid-range arrows, so what do you think the optimum gpp of arrows is? Obviously this would be a weight range, but is there a range that you shoot for?

I tend to be a middle-of-the-road guy and seem to end up around 6 1/2 to 7 gpp on a compound and 9 to 10 gpp on a recurve. I think that gives me the best balance of trajectory and penetration.

For a 65-70# setup anywhere from 7-8.5 is pretty hard to beat for NA game. I float between about 7.9-8.5 myself depending on how much weight I’m shooting at the time.

Although I run around 7.5 to 8.5 gpp this is for a 65lb bow. I ran same arrow weight at 70lbs. That means I was running 7 to 7.8. This is why looking at gpp with out know what bow draw weight is. As you see muddy listed his.

What we need to remember, arrow mass is what gives us penetration potential.

Just my opinion but for me it depends on the bows ibo speed. The faster the bow, the more gpi I try to get. My Full Throttle is running around 19gpi. arrow weight is 545gr at 28 3/4”. It’s hoss, shot this hog the other night at 20yrds & the arrow was about 6” in the dirt after it passed through. But to each his own. I like messing around with things so I always tend to change things up some. But the Full Throttle is performing awesome so I’ll probably leave it alone. 545gr at 267fps is plenty fast enough for me. GPI (grains per inch) and GPP (grains per pound of draw weight) are not the same unit of measure as they relate to a specific arrow profile. GPI = total arrow mass / arrow over all length. GPP = total arrow mass / peak draw weight.

The GPP for the full throttle would be 8.5. If my math is right. 64lbs & 545gr arrow.
