    Sealing/Coating Concrete Shop Floor

What's the most economical way to seal or coat a shop floor slab that will last & is impervious to oil & most common chemicals? I'd love to go all out on this but after having the shop built, & now having to have a bunch of it redone properly, I'm running low on funds. I'd prefer the granite flake look but it's probably out of my price range. It's 750sq/ft that I'm wanting done & wanting to keep it ~$500 range. I will be doing the labor myself.

I’ll be watching the replies. I’ve got a 24x30 shop I’m wanting to finish the concrete floor on also.

There are some options. Like a solvent based sealer. Is this the shop floor that you had pictures of on here ? I sent you a PM with my number . It's hard to type everything. Without talking to you and get an idea of what your floor is doing and your expectations. I will be fishing until 3 ish

Yes it's the same floor but it's in the process of being ground down & smoothed as much as possible via a concrete grinder machine then a smoothing/buffer machine. It's already looking/feeling much better but probably won't be 100% perfectly level but it will be very smooth. Not like glass but smooth & there will be aggregate showing on quite a bit of it.

              Will do. Thanks!

Anybody have good luck with any coatings or sealers sold at local hardware stores or Sherwin-Williams?

We did my partners new house/garage last Fall. 3-car garage about 38' wide and 24' deep. Took 3 boxes of the Rustoleum cement coat paint, that we got from Home Depot. They are about $36-40 per kit. It held up well all winter to all the snow. ice, and road salt. That just gets squeegeed out and then hosed out in Spring. It is a nice light tan with the black flakes.

What kinda prep work does it require?

Most all of the different brands require the same prep. Power washing or scrubbing with stiff brush to clean and then applying an acid etch that is provided. Then apply coating of choice. Just like painting anything, the quality of the end result will be a direct reflection on how well the prep was done

Has anyone used the Sherwin-Williams Armor-Seal floor coatings? On paper, it looks like a quality product.

Or has anyone used this product:

That one is claiming 10 years before recoat is needed. It’s pricey ($600 for 2 coats of 750sq/ft.) but looks like a quality product with good reviews.

Whatever you do, do not use a water based product. It will not last long at all. Believe it or not, Rustoleum makes a good garage floor epoxy.

I double checked with my friend on his garage floor and he corrected me on a couple things. Because the home was brand new and the concrete had never been driven on, the prep was minimal and he didn't feel the epoxy cover was needed. He did use the Rustoleum Etch solution and the Rustoleum chips to cover the paint, but the paint was Behr concrete paint, at about $35 per gallon. The chips can be used with any paint.

He said the 2-gal kit of epoxy shield paint was around $175 on sale.
