    Wind Turbines- effects on wildlife?

I think I know the answer to this question but I want definitive feedback from those with experience. I just got notified today that there will be 300 turbines put up in the general area of where I hunt. There will be 1 directly on our lease about 100yds from camp. I feel as though it will push game off for a long time but I'm not real familiar with how it effects game, especially deer. Anyone have experience in this field?

It will certainly affect it during construction, but once up they will get used to them...I was on the Bruni Ranch last year going to a compressor station & saw a nice buck pushing a doe right next location & that area is covered up with mills. I didn't think deer would get near those noisy engines but the Eprod guys say they see deer near the fence all the time & the deer traffic went back to normal quickly once the construction crews finished with the windmills.

No issues other than construction and when they are being worked on. Hunted in mills county and those things are everywhere, had one about 100 yards from my stand and had deer there every day

Don't bother them at all once they are up and running. The whoosh whoosh sound helps mask any sounds I make. The only thing they bother is me try to catch a nap in the blind and the occasional buzzard that gets hit by a blade.

Man, that would be cool to see!! I've never seen any evidence around the ones on our place of a bird strike....

As to whether they hurt the deer movement, in the case of our ranch, I think they may actually help. The area round the turbines is kept mowed and is green, green... it's like a natural food plot for our deer. I've seen nice bucks standing literally right under them just eating away... Other than they're an ugly blot on the landscape, I see no negative effects of having them on the property... Another good factor is that wherever they are, there will be great roads to them.

Now I'd imagine during construction, they would create quite a disturbance... there is a BIG hole dug in the ground and thousands of yards of concrete poured, then during the erection phase, there's a maw-honker of a crane that is brought in and quite a few big vehicles and lots of people... It is a fast operation though and doesn't last long once the foundation is done.

I’ve been in wind energy construction for 11 years. Some of the biggest bucks I’ve seen on the hoof have been while on site during construction. Like anything, they get use to it and they are curious.

During construction for sure they’re will be tons of noise and movement but after that a tower should only be visited twice a year. If it faults then someone will go fix it but traffic shouldn’t be bad and animals won’t mind them. I’ve been up tower looking over and see deer, nilgai, and hogs.

No impact, but man are they loud. No more peace and quiet.

Also be careful if there is freezing rain! 100 yards from camp is within catapult range! 😱

Doesn't sound too bad then. It will be a gamble for this season. One of my biggest concerns is the camp situation. Not sure how enjoyable it would be listening to it for 4-5 days straight.

Hunted literally underneath em for a few years... honestly minimum noise disturbance. If anything they are quite an enjoyable engineering feat to watch in action!

They kill a lot of birds. A friend in the business in Colorado counted over 1500 dead birds, a lot of raptors too in a small area. They pay people to cover the area and count them.
The blades are going around 200 mph at the tip.
So the environmentalists want them, then complain about the bird kills, gophers, ground squirrels, turtles, mice etc...during construction...can't please them.

Sure takes away from being out in the country and having to look at them all over.
