Where in Port A is a good place to kayak fish?

Family going to be there in a couple of weeks and my son wants to take his kayak and do some fishing. We will be at the Port Royal Resort so looking for something around there. Thanks

Lighthouse lakes is just north of the ferry on the road to Aransas Pass (before the bridge). Go early or late and fish the tides (they will stack up on the inlets looking for bait that is pushed by the tides).

On the other side of the road is Brown and Root. Same deal. If he goes to lighthouse lakes he needs to watch the channel. They fly through there pretty fast and don't slow down.

Heading towards the JFK bridge (south) there are several places to put in and fish. I can't remember the names of them but you will see them on a map and you will see trucks parked. Check out corpusfishing.com . You will find the names and locations. Good luck.

The above is correct. Lighthouse Lakes are popular.
Also, if you head south on 361, just past Port Royal Resort, turn right and there is a cut that leads into the bay. I've fished north and south of the cut, and paddled or the small island in the bay for redfish, drum and trout.

Not a kayak fisherman myself but there are several access places to some quiet water that lead to the bay from mustang island state park. No park fee. Probably where Charrison above was referring to.

Wilsons cut. you can park right on the water and get after it. Its right across from where you're staying. There will be other trucks out there you can see from the highway. just look at google maps and you will see it labeled "Wilsons cut" ...easy enough! good luck to you!

Is that Wilson's cut?? Do you know if you are allowed to camp out down there?

That's the one I was thinking of but could not remember the name. The launch road further from 361 was closed after the hurricane but the one closer was still open. I haven't been down to fish since the blow so I don't know if both Wilson's cut launches are open.

I don't believe so. The farthest launch was across private property. You may be able to camp at the launch closest to the road but I've not seen anyone camping there.

I don't think so but Mustang Island SP is real close. I have camped there and fish Wilson's cut.

Thanks for the info... It appears Mustang Island is closed to over night camping at the moment and only day time use is allowed.

Light house lakes and brown and root are two of the most popular places. Wilson’s cut is a good way to get to the laguna madre but I here some jack wagon has been breaking into trucks there.
Trout have been good at the old fish pass jetties which is close to where y’all are staying.
                            Good Luck!

I put in at the wind surf area on padre island national seashore.
                              Pretty good action and fun.
There is another better place between padre and port A.
