    Interchanging Bowtech limbs?

Has anyone tried to use Bowtech limbs from a different model bow than the riser? On the Barnsdale website replacement Bowtech limbs are sold by length only, not model specific.

I have a Bowtech Assassin that I would like to make into a 80# bow to use as a backup bow for a Water Buffalo hunt. Assassin limbs only go up to 70# but I have a pair of Allegiance and a pair of Tribute limbs(same 13" limbs as the Assassin) that have the deflection to get me close to the desired draw weight.

The Allegiance and Tribute limbs fit in the limb pockets and limb bracket well with the only difference being the slot where the cam fits is narrower on the older limbs. Barnsdale has a pdf on his website showing how to use nylon washers to get the cam to fit properly.

The Allegiance and Tribute limbs are slightly wider at the ends so my Assassin axles are a little short. I would have to find a pair of older Bowtech axles to make this work.

    Has anyone done this?

Have not done this but can go out into shop and research the possibility. Might be just easier to load the Assassin to 75 lbs and go with it. I shoot a 60 lb Assassin loaded to 65, and you can still hit perfect DL due to slotted drawstop grooves, and the performance achieved by preloading limbs and advancing cams gets me darn near 70 lb performance.

I've not done this, but several have over on AT. It sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of what needs to happen.

Of course, a good set of Barnsdale limbs will be the best solution; you just can't beat his limbs.

Rocky will probably have more insight into this when he makes his way around; he knows Bowtech inside and out.

Thanks for the idea. It does sound alot easier than trying to fit the Allegiance limbs to the Assassin cams and trying to find new/old axles.

Thanks. The problem with Barndale limbs is they only have up to 128 deflection available which would only give an Assassin 76# or so.

Went out and compared limbs from a Tribute and Assassin. The Assassin has an oval hole for the limbolt to work with that pocket design and the Trubute limbs have an open slot that works with the Trubute/Allegiance pocket design. My concern would’ve the limb working it’s way out of the pocket.l Axles are not an issue. I have several.

Thanks for taking the time to research this. I had the same thoughts on the limb bolt slot but all the Barnsdale replacement limbs have a slot instead of the hole. I assume this is so Barndale can make one 13" limb that will fit in all Bowtechs. I will start with your original idea and if I can't get enough Draw weight out of the 70# limbs I will circle back to this.

I’ve got my A2A down to 30 1/4” plus cams advanced, and drawstop repositioned back to 28” exactly. My bow is shooting within 8 fps of a 70 lber. Assassin limbs are some of the toughest limbs ever produced by Bowtech. I’ve never seen a broken one. They’re plenty durable loaded 4-5 extra pounds.
