    Wyoming antelope

My group and I got drawn for unit 17 and we are starting to try and make plans. I was wondering if anyone else has hunted this unit and had any pointers. I’ve heard it has some tough access to public land and was hoping someone might have more information than I can find online about areas where I can legally access without having to pay to access through private land. I can’t find any maps that will tell me where we can and cannot access. I’m excited as can be and hoping I can get my first antelope!

    Thanks,
    Matt

OnX will show you all the public access areas. I use it in Colorado for the same reason.

Nothing like antelope hunting for fun and frustration ! I've never hunted that unit but if access will be a problem the first thing I would do is buy the On-X app so you can plainly see property lines and ownership. Good luck !

Edit: Reaper types faster than I do !

OnX will get you the info you need and right now they have a deal on camofire.com that gets you one state for $18.

Onx maps are your friend. Speak to the fish and game officer. The old man warden in unit 45 signed our licenses and granted us access to a HMA in area that needed a permission slip.

Yes, use OnX..... its helpful, but only one tool.

Go to Wyoming's web site, find the Wyoming antelope unit map. Look around your unit. From what I can tell, the brown roads on this map will be public roads, along with the major highways as well. Otherwise, roads are private. Just bc OnX shows a road leading into a prime patch of yeller (BLM), doesn't help you if it is a privately maintained road.

Then, you use those brown roads, and get a plan based on OnX which will show you property lines, and some topography.

If you have no idea where to start, send number. I'll screen shot some things and send to you.

Wyoming puts out some great maps for free with their GeoPDF features.

Unlike Colorado (lived and hunted there for 20 years), Wyoming has usually helpful and knowledgeable game wardens. Can't hurt to ask.

This and or the biologist. They will also be able to tell you what to expect on the hunt as far as terrain and what the outlook on animals will be.

Look here for county roads, public roads in the county: https://www.ccgov.net/DocumentCenter...ounty-Road-Map
If you have specific questions about a given road contact the Superintendent of the Road and Bridge Department.
BLM land status maps are great paper maps that show public and private lands. BLM has an office in Casper and can answer questions about which maps you would need.
OnX is great but can be wrong.
If you get questioned just show your GPS and your position, the GW will work with you, but know it can be wrong.

The HMA and walk in area info will be out in July, perhaps you will have an access area when it does.
Look on the hunt planner map on the G&F website.

unit 17 if pretty difficult access and pretty rugged for antelope, from what I remember when i looked at it as a second choice. like the others have said, on X maps chip, county map and i would check at the mapping on the wy GF site under hunt planner as well. good info on it.
