    Painter troubles..

So my wife and I were fortunate enough to be transferred from Midland to Corpus Christi where we bought a house on the island. We love the house as it was but decided to paint the interior and give it an "island" feel. Well, we were crunched for time and hired this contracting company that does paint to come out and paint the interior. The level of sloppiness can not be over stated. The cut lines are crooked, paints don't match, one thin coat of paint on all the doors (which is peeling off already), and missed patches. Its all very sloppy and horribly done. We have already had this guy back out 3 times to correct things and its still not done. Are there any painters in Corpus Christi that would come out and look at the work and give us an estimate on what it would take to make this right? We are looking to get a professionals opinion and estimate in the event that we have to take this guy to small claims court over this. Any help or recommendations is greatly appreciated!

I'm not in your area but the problem your going to have is another painter coming in and charging you more to fix what the idiots did wrong to start with. If the paints already peeling I assume it's been painted over existing paint and my guess it's that they put latex over enamel. Also if the paint don't match in places I'm guessing they didn't box all there paint together to make sure it all matches at the end of the second coat. That's if they did 2 coats. Wish I could help you more. If you have any ? PM me and I'll send my number to explain what I think could be done.

Bownut is right. I've been a painter for 40 years and if I have to go in and fix the last guy's stuff it always cost more. Sorry I'm in Dallas and can't help you either. First thing I would do if you owe him money don't pay. Yea sounds like latex over oil on the doors. Hope things work out for you.

I owned a large paint company in Frisco for years. I wouldn't even quote what you are after and if so it would be a lot more than your original bid. A lot depends on your contract and if you have paid them, which based on your small claims court statement I hope you haven't paid them.

We paid him a portion for the paint. We still owe him money but he hasn’t come calling for it and I don’t intend on giving it. You should see this work.. it’s **** near comical. I could give my 5.5 year old a brush and he could probably do a better job..

I lived in Corpus for 10 years. This is typical Corpus. I am sorry, wish I had a solution, but going forward, be VERY careful of any contractors in Corpus.

If there is no signed contract and he isn't calling for money then end it here, he probably expects that anyway. If it expedites you can offer to pay him for "some" of his time if there is a contract and if he agrees then have him sign lien release, although if I remember correct it may need to be notorized but not sure. Sounds as if this painter wouldn't have an idea how to do any of this so a signature on the contract saying paid in full would likely suffice. Tell him you have to pay to have it all redone, best if handled via email or text msg rather than verbal. Lots of ways to handle it but all depend on original agreement.

similar situation, I had a homeowner call me to unscrew up a painters work which he said I was too expensive. About a year later got a call for an estimate and when I pulled up it was the same house, he hired another bad painter and had forgotten he called me. I called him and told him not to even meet me, I had no interest in dealing with him. We had excellent reputation but were too expensive so he paid 2 bad painters and over a year later was still needing it redone, cheaper isn't always cheaper.

Painters are, without a doubt, the most troublesome part of house building. I fired two before the third one finished the house. Good luck !

I could see that. I've been a painter and tape and bedder for 28 yrs. it's amazing some of the work these guys put out. Seems lately I'm fixing other painters mistakes. Hey business is good.

Check with Sherwin Williams to see if they have some contacts. I hesitate to say recommendations but they know who does good work.

I looked up Southern Painting and they have a Corpus franchise. They were my main competitor up here yet we were friends and am to this day. They did good up here and being corporate they stood by their work. It is a franchise so I can't speak for the Corpus branch but I would look them up and check out reviews.
