    4 Wheeler Mechanic Question

I have a Kawasaki Bayou 300. Put an after market carb in it. I can get it to start but I can’t give it throttle without it dying. Starts back up easily when I bump the start button. I found that if I put my hand over the air intake (remove the air filter) and restrict air flow it runs fine. I can rev it up etc. As soon as I remove the restriction, it will idle but dies when try to give it any gas. Air filter on or off it dies when giving it any gas without restricting air flow.

    Thoughts?

Check the position of the needle that connects the throttle cable to the slide. You should locate a small clip that will allow movement in intervals. Most likely you need to raise the needle, which would be to lower the clip.

    .....and God Bless America.

I had a similar issue. Actually still do. In the exact same bike. I found that the enricher in mine is stripped where it screws in. I am going to see about fixing that on mine, because I can push it onto the carb on mine and hold it and it runs good.

Somehow you are getting to much air in your air/fuel mixture. Did you replace the gasket between carb and intake?

Ive seen a lot of people trying to get by with a cheap aftermarket Amazon carbs. Most are a generic made in China carb. Check the main jet to see what size it is.

Mudease in Alvin. They'll throw that cheap carb away and put a good one on it. Great guys.

Sounds kinda like what my tiller was doing.
I started with the easiest fix first. First thing I did, it wasn't it. The second thing I did fixed it. It was vapor locking.

I've used several of the cheap carbs in 3 different atvs and a few lawn tools, they work just fine. Can't say how long thoigh.

Sounds like an air leak. How does it do with choke on?

Working on the bike today. Adjusted the fuel adjustment screw in and out
Testing along the way. Still same thing. It idles fine. Soon as I give it gas it wants to die.

I tried messing with the choke and nothing changes. Purrs like a dream if I cup my hand over the intake. If I restrict air too much it dies. I can see the rubber squeeze in if I restrict too much also.

I ordered another carb just in case.

                  any other ideas?

Open the carb up. Check the jets. See what size they are and what they are suppose to be. Check the fuel level. Make sure the jet needle is in the correct position & is moving freely.

Is it a diaphraphm type carb?

Never had a lick of trouble out of a cheap carb.

Industry insiders say the issue of counterfeit parts is hardly breaking news. Following the raids at the SEMA Show a few years back, Omix-ADA released an official statement: “The company …

Get an OEM carb. Learn how to clean it. You will have far less issues rebuilding an OEM carb than fighting issues like this with a cheap Amazon carb.
